Finally, made the jump to a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiPO) battery for my 55 Minn Kota on my sacalait skiff.

Bought a budget priced Wattcycle 12.8 volt, Group 24, 100 amp for $159.99 plus tax from Wattcycle .com.

Which lithium do you choose? - Checkout this YTer DIY Solar w/ Will Prowse
LINK

Baw cuts these batteries apart, shows the componets and tests the features - in the very least an education into lithiums. By the way, all of these batteries are made in China. (what I see reported on YT).

If you order through Wattcycle and a first time customer you can get 5% off sale with your email addy. Free shipping and good reviews, Im in for $170ish.

I've thought about making the switch on my jonboat, but a house burned down with a golf cart battery close to us and I slowed my roll.

I need to do more research and I'd like to figure out some easy counter measures against fire in the garage.

Are the lithium’s lighter than lead acid ? What’s the advantages ? I haven’t researched them. I need to put an extra battery in three boats that I have.

Tell me y’all experiences , please.

There was a thread earlier on this board about LiTime batteries or something. I am buying some today. Great reviews and they come in mini versions as well. The lithiums are half the weight as regular lead There are many sales in them right now

You can buy an onboard charger that will charge lead and/or lithiums. Minn kota makes one and I believe the Noco Genius as welll

BC,
I plan to charge with my onboard Noco Genius 5x2 (5 amps) on Lithium setting. the group 24 weighs about 23 lbs. The AGM group 31 I'm replacing is so heavy its a job listing that mofo out of the motor well.

When you have a minute check out Will Prouse's You tube. Lots of guys making YT lithium videos, I think ol Will is one of the better resouces.
Lithium (LiPO) batteries nutshelled for old guys - got me up to speed quick.

LiPO discharge curve doesn't fall off as fast as lead acid batt - pulls hard all day and lasts for days is what I read. Gonna treat myself.

NOCO Genius 5x2 already on board, but prepared to buy a lithium higher amp charger if current NOCO is insufficient.

For pond boat trolling motors, I don't know why anyone is still using lead acid. The light weight and affordability of the LiPO's now is incredible.

Li Time was my original choice and Will Prouse and others rate them high, but I found a few recent reviews that reflected Li Time customer service backsliding so I went with Wattcycle after I saw Will's teardown video with the LiTime and Wattcycle group 24 batts. Orange graphics are shiney, but as an old dude, I know shiney disappoints.

Best of luck to everyone upgrading.

100ah Power Queen has been great for a year and a half now. Use it for trolling motor, run a 12v fridge for up to 5 days etc.

I have the Chins (no joke) cheapest 100AH 36V on my offshore boat to run our spot lock trolling motor.

Weighs what one lead acid battery weighs, Goes 2 days offshore before it needs a charge, totally happy!

It was less than $800.

My nephew that is a boat mechanic and installed mine, recommended Noco for my onboard. One year into the conversion, quite happy.

For real, I see all those guideboats in all the marinas in Grand Isle popping off like firecrackers almost every day.

LiFePO4 batteries are safer than normal lead acid batteries.
