I thought it was an SBR (short-barrelled rifle) AR that required the stamp. Isn't that why all the AR weenies buy those "hand brace" things that they're not supposed to shoulder? I think the whole point is to take an AR pistol (no stamp required) and make it a de facto SBR.

And it works wonderfully. AR weenie checking in I guess. Because frick that $200 tax stamp

Any luck finding one?

It seems like anything 223 or 556 can’t be found right now.

Plus for actual carry and transportation of the firearm a pistol is more law friendly than a rifle in just about every single state

And even more law friendly than a NFA item

From what I've read you can own a AR pistol without the tax stamp? Is that correct?

This is correct as of today, but there are people at the ATF who wake up every day wanting to change that. I fully expect them to be made illegal if Biden wins.

Eta: I own a DD sbr and it's one of the best weapons I've ever fired. Extremely high quality.

My 300BLK "pistol" with a form 1 can is a blast to shoot. And it can take down some mid sized pigs.

There are a couple of other restrictions regarding pistols (like a vertical foregrip) but generally speaking you can avoid a lot of the NFA regulations by purchasing a pistol instead of an SBR.

This is the first i've heard of this? No foregrip on a pistol? What about a bipod?

Yeah I have an old Marlin .22lr and I love shooting it. More enjoyable than my shotgun for sure.

Have there ever been Congressional hearings or any other forums where ATF was questioned on the why of this? Especially SBRs. I just don't get the reason for the prohibition, and I really don't understand how a tax comes into play to make something otherwise illegal, legal.
