Amen.
You keep firing until he or she isn't a threat anymore. This does not mean to execute him/her if he/she is on the ground, but to fire until the threat is over, aka the person's ability to do you harm.

You can take that option, but you are not going to be in any kind of frame of mind to cover your arse at that point and the cop is not there to help. He's there to use anything you say against you in a court of law.
Asking for a lawyer at that point indicates nothing but you know your rights and aren't surrendering them.

According to call if duty though it takes three shots to drop a half-starved Japanese banzai charger.

And a grenade launcher with lasers for a Chinese one

You are correct again.
I have read a LOT of information about self defense shootings. And the most educated advisers always suggest you don't say a word to the police. They can use ANYTHING you say against them. There are three responses for me:
"There was a shooting."
"I was in fear of my life."
"I would prefer my lawyer be present before I say more."

A lesson in not using or owning a .40 cal pistol. I know for a fact that one State Police Agency in the South replaced the Glock .40s they issued with Glock .357 Sigs. The sole reason for the replacement was that the .40 did not kill, and if you are gonna shoot someone, you probably better kill them.

It's pretty amazing to me that people can read an article written by someone that has absolutely no idea as to what happened other than someone got shot and think they know exactly what happened.
Just amazing.
Just amazing.

It's very loud, and hard to do on a front door.
no it is not. The average front door is held in place by a good deadbolt that is in a 1/8 inch thick piece of brass plate.
BUT IT IS ONLY SCREWED INTO 7/16" STRIP OF TOUNGE AND GROOVE SEGMENTED WHITE BIRCH OR ASH MOLDING WITH TWO 3/8" LONG BRASS WOOD SCREWS.
Kicking in a freakign door is childs play.
Now a reinforced door is quite different.

Police are specifically taught to manipulate people for information. Doesn't matter if it is wrong or right, they spin it how they see fit. Detectives are 40x better at the same thing.

Good God. I went to college with one of the people mentioned in the article, and have actually been to that house.
Is everyone okay?

I shot a wounded deer point blank with hollow points from a 40 cal 10 times 2 hunting seasons ago and didn't kill it. I lost my 40 cal not long after that and won't buy another one.

There is a reason most LEAs are doing away with that caliber and either going back to 9mm with +P rounds, or .45s and .357 sigs. .40s suck.
