If I'm lucky and bag one, I'll be sure to post some pics and brag.
Thats the best part of hunting.

If I went and bought a surf board and gear and waded out in the great blue with you, it would be totally obvious to you that I had no idea what was up, right? Relax and have a good time. It's really not about the hunting, bro. Really
This. If you show up totally decked in brand new gear, it will be obvious what you're doing. Just go with what you've got, maybe a new jacket and a couple things, but I wouldn't overdo it.
If anything, this is just a guys trip-initiatation thing, so just relax and have a good time.
Trying watching the Outdoor Channel a couple nights this week to brush up on your hunting lingo for bullshitting purposes

Yeah I figured that's what it's all about. I'm already ahead of you on the outdoors channel. I though I made a mistake and ended up on comedy central. I didn't know Jeff Foxworthy really hunted.

Good luck man. My dad started taking me hunting when I was young. You'll learn alot on tour first trip

Oh, and coming from a hard core hunting family, good for you for making the effort. My bro in law did the same thing when he first married my sister. He stuck it out for a couple years and gave it a good shot. Even killed a deer, although he did almost get killed once when a stand fell with him, and he shot a buck in the mouth......
Anyway, he gave it a good shot and decided it really wasn't for him, but we all respect the hell out of him for trying to connect with us.

The prospect of waiting in a thicket or tree for 5-6 hours is not a comforting thought. But I'm gonna give this a shot.
would you wait that long for the perfect set? and dude trust me when you actually see something you will get jacked up. and this really has nothing to do with hunting this has to do with you being part of the family. just ask a lot of questions they will love that

Just dont try to fake it. Someone who hunts a lot can spot someone who doesn't from a mile away. Learn something from the bastard.

then go talk to him and ask him what you are asking us. just call him and say hey new dad would you mind going with me to get huntn gear and rifle, so i can get some advice from you. even if you don't use it or need it just ask like that he will eat that shite up. if you try to do this on your own they gonna make it rough for you. and get over that blue collar/white collar shite, out there everyone is the same. some of the best people I know are shrimpers and commercial fishermen
Good advice. He will appreciate being asked and involved. The blue/white collar stuff means nothing to me. It will be his new family, it shouldn't be a thought in his mind if they're good people.

This is easy
90% of todays hunters pay lots of $$ to hunt. They will have a tree house for you to climb in. You sit, wait, shoot. That is it. Nothing to it. Just wear warm clothes, pack a drink, snack, and bring a rifle. Just go for the ride and sit where they put you.

As soon as you see your pop in law and them in the whoeehouse...you are in tight. Let's face it, you are fixing to learn a lot about your future family. 1 day at deer camp will let you know more than 10 years of Sunday lunches.
I suggest you show up with a hooker, they will love it.

Ive given this some thought.
I dont think running out and buying a bunch of equipment is the way to go. (See if you can borrow a gun for the hunt)
Instead just come clean .......admit your somewhat green...but looking forward to it. Ask a decent amount of questions as if you are genuinely interested (You might actually like it).
Most guys I know enjoy getting someone else interested in the sport. Good Luck

Get a .308.....be quiet in the stand...hunt downwind if you can....walk to your stand if they are in an area where not many four wheelers are run. Toe warmers are the shite. If your lips get chapped from.windburn real bad get you some KY for them (like cue the jokes but that shite works, make sure its a new tube). You gut shot one its going to stink like shite. Aim right above the front leg if they are broadside....bring binoculars. Its late...maybe I can think more tomorrow

KY in the stand with internet phone = not much hunting going on

270. Is a awesome deer gun. Since you said you were experienced with guns I wouldn go any smaller than that.

I noticed how you say rifle and not gun like others... My dad was a marine and taught me how to hunt as a kid... Corrected me every time I said gun instead of rifle.
It's a camaraderie thing not a hunting thing... Campfire stories, food, and shooting the shite is just as important as the hunt. Don't leave early or complain and you're golden. If you see a deer, know how many yards it was, where it came out, what time, etc.... It's all about the story.
Hopefully you'll find the solitude and peace with nature to be comforting... It's easy to get caught up about where are the damn deer when you're in the stand but if you just relax and soak it up it is very therapeutic.
