Of the options given A.

In my house, 12 gauge or AK. Not sure which and maybe both.

Shotgun should be my answer. But i keep .40 with rem 180 gr hollow pernts at home. There are 4 walls between me and kiddos rooms. Does this matter?

AR, Preferably an AR SBR'ed with a suppressor. Short easily maneuverable weapon with center of mass at a good point near the body. Quiet 5.56 will penetrate fewer layers of drywall then 9mm thus limiting the potential for collateral damage due to inevitable misses. Under stress the manipulation of the AR platform is very easy and utilizes fewer fine motor skills than the pump action shotgun. Short stroking a pump shotgun may be easy do when under stress. Contrary to popular belief the spread of the shotgun is not 5' in diameter at close ranges. Yes, you have to aim. Large magazine capacity to engage multiple targets that may be present. Home invasions have seen as many as 7 intruders in recent news. 8 rounds in the shotgun seems light now doesn't it? Almost zero felt recoil using an AR allowing for faster follow up shots. Infinite configurations to allow the user to customize the most maneuverable , lightweight defensive firearm per the users physical size, strength, skill, etc. On phone, will edit with more later.

Bingo. We have the most logical answer so far.

True.

HOWEVER. Hear a 12 guage go off and When they see their buddy blown off his feet.... By the time the 6 other shots go off, they aren't going to be there wondering what that was.

But the .45 in the side table is there just in case.

I think if I had one of those I'd sell it and move somewhere nicer. With a moat.

Still a pump and at danger of short stroking and jamming. Not what I want to happen when I have somebody coming through my front door.

I have heard stories of people on meth doing dumber things than standing in the way of a gun. I would not count on killing one and cheering as the rest run away.

I do now think AR is right for home defense, but I honestly don't want to deaf my entire family with it.

Would a pump not be less susceptible to jamming than auto?

Not the case. Career criminals will be calm and more prepared than you. They will be alert, armed, and high on meth. You will be sleepy, confused, and lucky to survive.

Use some logic bud.

30 rounds of 5.56 or 7.62 indoors will indeed be loud. But I doubt that it will deafen you or your family any faster than a 12 gauge in the same situation. Plus, I would rather be deaf than dead.

Under normal situations, yes. Add stress and danger into any situation and fine motor skills go out the window. My AR stays loaded, all I have to do is charge it once. A shotgun you have to charge every shot (if its a pump) and they are very prone to short stroking.

I didn't say I'd shoot once and cheer. I said by the time the 7th shot got off there wouldn't be anything left. And that there a .45 in the side table just in case.

I'd probably give my wife my AR and tell her to stay in the room with the kid. While I went out w my 12 guage and .45.
