You’re a better man than me

Crossed my mind for sure. After it happened, I physically felt sick to my stomach so climbed down to take a dump 150 or so yards behind stand at canal and woods. My insides were all messed up.

Had I not had my youngest nephew and Brothers hunting out here, things may have been different this morning. I hope I don’t regret it. Last time I had a similar situation like this was about 6 years ago. The very next morning I shot a buck I had never seen, had no idea about and no pictures of. He was huge. I really do believe in good and bad karma as I’ve gotten older. I believe if you have integrity and do things the right way, I’m usually blessed more than I could’ve hoped. I haven’t always been like this though.

Saw 3 young bucks, they did not cooperate in terms of being in a spot I could get a shot. But it was nice to see some in real life for the first time since November, I think. I'm not hunting tomorrow or Friday. I said I wasn't hunting the weekend (last weekend of gun season is always crowded)...we'll see. Youth weekend I'll try to drag the 16yo out (Jan 10-11).

Y'all get em, I got 1 early but nothing since. Still better than being shut out!

From 10:05 to almost noon I saw a lot of deer. Nothing I wanted to harvest but several young deer that I am really excited about. My rut is basically over

Since noon, nothing. I’m about to haul arse about 3 miles south and hunt that old bean field.

I do think for most of us for the next several days mornings will be best to catch a mature buck on his feet heading back to bed early morning. If you’re in an area where your rut is peak, doesn’t matter as long as you got the does.

Good luck. Would like to get more feedback on other folks deer movement today.

257wby, nothing? Your rut should be wrapping up right?

Bringing in the new year in Tensas Parish.
A lot of buck activity and kills in the last few days- just not me.

Spending the last evening of 2025 with the wife and baby girl. Pup and I closed out the year with a decent duck shoot this morning. Happy New Years baws!

Area 9 overlooking a pipeline.

Just me and my woodsmaster 742 Remington 3006 on a perfect day to be tailgating. Waiting on big boy to slip up and show himself. good luck to all my fellow deer slayers on the outdoor board. Season needs to slow down.

Yote hunting tonight. Already have 3 out and looking for them to come in closer. Roughly 400 yards out right now hugging a tree line. The lead is walking around looking out for the others. I’m waiting for them all to get within 200.

Perfect night.

Nah. I have a bait station set up. Accidentally left the call at the house. I doubt the batteries were any good anyway.

I think I’m going to call it an early night as I hadn’t seen the yotes come back out and more deer are coming out. The deer below are 470 yards out. It looks better through the scope. I took a screenshot from my phone.

I’ve had it for about 10 months. It’s an amazing piece of tech. It cuts through fog well (you won’t get the lrf in the fog). There are color palettes for everyone. I typically stick to white or black hot and the red/blue.

I wouldn’t regret doing the right thing. You’d have a buck on your wall that you would have to lie about, but you would know how you actually killed it. Personally, I could never truly be proud of that. Some people think differently though I’m sure. You’ll get him, or a bigger one! Don’t beat yourself up over it.

Quesa, we’ve got a solid ten days of rut, if not more, left for us.
