yes the setting is in map creator under raster options.
as for the kml it shouldn't take too long but depends on area.
some tiles will not exist at certain zoom levels in open water usually.
how big of an area you trying to do?

Pretty large, Coastal LA from Atchafalaya> Venice>Chandeliers>Rigolets then back to start.

Can anyone tell me how to get names of waterbodies (major bayous and bays) on my map? My maps work perfect, but nothing is labeled.

To do that you will need to download QGIS. It's a free GIS program. It's a bit more technical than using sas planet or map create.

Are there directions for this?

It is pretty involved. If I get some time, I will try and put something together. Maybe Seapickle or Whodat have some advice they could give.

Has anyone made a navionics(instead of the photo overlay) card from SAS and IMC yet? What max/min resolution do you use when creating the AT5 files? Do you use any different raster options?

i have but it doesnt work as good as in its not remotely close to clear at all viewing ranges like the sat images. Ive tweaked it with changing the resolution and tons of trial and error but it wasnt worth the time.
This is where it gets very technical and you have to really understand, in a nutshell, that each zoom level you download realistically has a min and max resolution range and once you get out of that it will be blurry. The sat images dont display these flaws as much so you can use a larger resolution range on a single zoom level.
The contour maps need to be composed of multiple levels and the files size grows exponentially.

Can someone email me the instructions? I’ve been struggling through trying to make a card.
Croacka@gmail.com
I remember some video at some point saying there was a max number of tiles that you could do but I can’t remember what it was and if it still applies.
I didn’t think I would be able to do large areas down to a decent zoom level but maybe I was wrong.
Thanks in advance and sorry for the old bump.

My SASPlanet stopped working about a month ago. It will not let me save as KML..

I ran into that but ended up having to download an older version to get it to work.

Much appreciated.
Context: I took a gifted 17' bass boat (new to me) to Delcroix for the first time on a hellava windy day in February with wife and 4 year old daughter, with a sub par GPS. Hit some shallow mud, engine went into protect mode trying to get out of the mud, made it back to the ramp in limp mode but made me re-think ever doing something stupid like that again. Scared the hell out of myself, frankly.
Now that I own the boat and have some cash to spend, the first thing I'm upgrading is the Nav unit and adding a jackplate. I'm looking at something like the Simrad Go 9 or similar. Question is, for a total inshore newb like myself, would I still be better off with the infamous LA 1 card for the safe tracks or whatever? It seems like I still need some training wheels for now. For inshore, I think I'll mostly be solo sight fly fishing, otherwise I'll be taking the fam in freshwater lakes/rivers.

The LA1 card does show navigation canals where they have navigation canals. The card doesn’t have shallow water areas identified.
