Obviously we will have to agree to disagree. BTW if you have any guns with safeties on them I would be willing to take them off your hands for a good deal!

Since having my first child and another one on the way I see things very differently now. Safety is much more important to me than when it was just me in the house. To the OP, if you are looking for a good gun with a thumb safety check out the XD 45acp.

Nor should you, as stated earlier every gun should be treated as if it were loaded

I have a Glock and Ruger LCP which are the only pistols i've purchased, neither have a safety switch. I have a S&W pistol from my grandpa that does.

I understand that many on this board views safeties differently than I do.

I would put a safety several steps down the list on how to make a gun safe. I ABSOLUTELY wouldn't count on one to keep anyone else safe with my gun. The first thing you should do when handing a gun to someone else is unload it. The first thing you should do when handed a gun is check that it is unloaded.

Safeties may be good for cops who are worried about being shot with their own gun.

I've said it before: I see too many people on this board who think their gun is safe because the safety is on. In the vast majority of long guns, a safety only keeps you from pulling the trigger. A gun on safe can still fire if dropped. Long guns should be unloaded until you are ready to shoot them.

And don't tell me you've never heard of "it went off because I thought the safety was on."

If I'm a cop, no way do I want a gun with a safety.

but what about the safety of others. Safety for cops make sense bc they will have a known advantage on their weapon that a criminal would not know immediately.

I don't know what you're asking. A safety for M&P is not a good idea. I understand the proposed benefits to a magazine safety for cops, but do not believe it's all that useful in the end.

I dont think anyone proposes using a safety so that you can handle a gun in an unsafe manner.

You should reconsider your stance on revolvers. A snub-nosed revolver in .38 special makes an ideal concealed carry, car and nightstand gun. They are no fun to shoot and inaccurate. If you want a range handgun, get a 1911 in .45 ACP. If you want a do it all gun, get a .357 revolver with a 4" barrel.

Very nice gun, I'd get one myself if it weren't just slightly too big for my hand for comfort.

What does a safety trigger on the gun have to do with gun safety with little kids in the house. If your kid ever gets to your gun any way possible, safety or no safety, you've already failed at gun safety big time.
