Georgia and bama suck!!!!

I’m only speaking for myself but I hunt southwest ms due to no swamp. Within 2-2.5hrs with the exception of st francicville area I’m surrounded by swamp. I’m talking chest deep nasty swamp filled with skeeters. I’m a pussy and don’t want to deal with that on a daily basis while hunting. (I do but only maybe 8-10 times a season).

The fees suck but it is what it is and I don’t complain about fees cause well…. I can just hunt in LA (or whatever state coming from) or I can move to MS which we plan on doing after my youngest goes to college.

best financial move I made was buying a lifetime sportsman MS license in 2001 while I was student/resident and held a MS driver's license for 18 consecutive months.
I have looked into lifetime non-resident MS licenses for my kids and its now called Native with them having to have been born in MS with parents address in MS...
another thing I find is BS is that there are no exemptions or discounts for over 65 if a non resident. Like many here, my dad owns land in MS, pays property taxes, utilities, mailbox, etc, but resides in LA so he has to buy a non resident at full price at age 72.

Mississippi Lifetime License
Lifetime Sportsman - you must provide proof of domicile of Mississippi for a minimum of 18 consecutive months.

Non-Resident Mississippi Native Lifetime - you must be a native-born Mississippian proving you were born in the state of Mississippi and parent's address was in Mississippi OR if you were not born in Mississippi, the parents' address was in Mississippi at the time of your birth.

Lifetime Sportsman MIL - you must provide proof of parent being born in Mississippi. Must also provide official documents indicating parent was on active military service at the time of your birth.

I just mean as a state in general they suck! haha

I know people that hunt bama and do well but it’s a 4-5hr trip for them. We used to drive up past Ruston in a small town called Lillie to hunt, 6hr drive. Then we leased property in Nacitoches and reduced drive to 3.5 hours. Once had kids I said screw it and found a club to hunt in MS and hunt all the surrounding public lands within 2-2.5 hrs from my driveway. Doubt I ever switch back to la for my main area to hunt.

Pdubya can help you out with that

Yep I can. I’ve been busy the last few weeks fixing hunting club roads that have washed out. I have a job to do next week making some right of ways for shooting lanes .

I would pay that, Bought my lic today online, and it was $569.29

With owning property with no plans on selling it would be worth it to me.

Or my next move once my kids are out of school, i may change my resident

I did the same in 2000 while going to school in MS. My best bud told me to get the lifetime license before switching back to LA residence. He kept saying that I would never have to pay a penny more to hunt in MS...forever.

Only cost $500 back then.

I’ll be $1200 in by the time I buy a license in TX, MS, and AL.

The fine is damn near cheaper than the license…

quote:

The fine for hunting without a license in Mississippi varies depending on whether you are a resident or nonresident, and the number of offenses:

Resident A resident who hunts without a license is fined $500.

Nonresident, first offense A nonresident who hunts without a license is fined $500–$1,000 and loses hunting and trapping privileges for one year.

Nonresident, second offense A nonresident who hunts without a license is fined $1,000–$1,500, loses hunting and trapping privileges for two years, and may be imprisoned for up to 30 days.
