Yes. Cook the best tasting BBQ. Smoke a brisket on a pellet and one over charcoal and tell me which is better. It ain't even close. Charcoal w/ wood chunks is way, wayyyyyy better.

Now remove the word brisket and insert any meat you want and the answer remains the same. I have 6 different pits. One is a GMG Jim Bowie pellet. Love it. Super easy to use. Won't get rid of it but it can't out-flavor charcoal.

Another option might be a master built gravity smoker. Its like a pellet grill that uses charcoal. Can be set from 150-700 deg so you can cold(ish) smoke up to a hard seer.

Listen to this guy. I have one of those too. They're bad to the bone. Ease of use like a pellet but the flavors of charcoal/wood. Just tell him you want one.

I’m old school charcoal pit guy. I grill steaks, chicken, pork chops, burgers, smoke briskets etc. Is there anything I can’t do on a pellet that I currently do on coal? Also cleaning a pellet, is it pretty easy? Getting tired of the mess with coal
I've used a green egg exclusively for the last 20 years......until I got my Recteq about 6 months ago. That grill is up there with my small tractor as the best thing I've ever bought. I do everything on that grill now, even pizza. As far as steaks, I've found that the reverse sear is the way to go. I put my steaks on at a low temp till they get to about 125 degrees, then sear them. Cooked a steak for a good friend of mine a couple of weeks ago, and he is still raving about that steak. Said it was the best he's ever had. As for doing long cooks, brisket, Boston Butts, etc., it couldn't be more easier. Make sure whatever brand you go with, has wifi. Another friend got a pellet grill from Lowes, no wifi. Sounds kinda petty, but knowing the temp of the meat without standing in front of it, has some great advantages.

Can't recommend enough. I went with the 800 so I could have the griddle too. I love having both.

I wonder if I can get just the griddles. I know there are other stand-alone griddles out there but I'm wondering what it would cost if I could. 1080 with a griddle would be my prefered combo, I just like the space I have on the 1080.

My buddy swears by his rec tec as well.

You'd also need the right heat manifold to direct the fire up on to the griddle. I don't think you'd get as much control if you went with the regular manifold.

While I like the griddle combo with it, if I had the room I would just go 1080 and get a separate gas griddle. It is kind of messy switching everything out and having to store the grates while using the griddle. Since I don't have the space to store another large cooking device out on the back patio it is perfect for my situation.

I haven't felt limited with the size of the 800 but I'm sure if you're used to the 1080 then you may feel that way.

I don't know much about the pellet grills other than I went to a buddy's house not long ago and he cooked ribeyes on his. They weren't all that great and over cooked. Could just be that he doesn't know how to cook a steak though. LOL I gave a big green egg that I love. Personally, I think pellet grills are mainly useful for long, slow cooks that you don't want to tend to. If I didn't have my egg then I may look into a pellet only because they're cheaper. My XL green egg was a Christmas gift is the only reason I have one, but it's the best gift ice ever recieved.

That's where I'm at. Got the 1050 from NolaGT ( ) and have a separate stand alone flat top. The 1050 does have a good sized footprint but guess what, you buy a big pit, it's gonna take up some room...lol. I've relegated myself to the fact that I'm just not gonna have a shed that I can freely walk through. I have too much cooking equipment.

There might be a small spot to fit a stainless double-basket fryer though.

My 800 is so easy to use it's stupid. I choose it over another smoker that I put a lot of money in and another poster here put a lot of work in. It's just so damn easy. My only issue is: I have forgotten to remove those barrier deals twice and could not figure out, for a while, why I was getting no heat

I have the Rec-Teq 590

The thing that sets it apart from other pellet grills is the PID controller. It holds temp to the EXACT temperature once the desired temperature is reached. No swings at all

My Green Mountain never drifts more than 5 degrees +/-.

ah, yes. The Easy Bake Oven for men

I kid I kid...its a fantastic concept- just not for me. I enjoyed learning how to control my smoker and really got it down to a science now! Set and forget, but nothing close to how long you can be away from a pellet smoker tho.
