Any in Louisiana ever have any luck finding these. I've always been interested in them and had some as pets when I was little but I bought them at the pet store. Just curious because I would like to maybe go catch a couple and get some pictures.

ETA- A little more specific, Southern Louisiana ( anywhere around Lafayette)

I caught them in Bayou Robert as a kid. They just showed up there one year. We caught them for maybe a couple of years, then the bayou started drying up every year and they were gone.

See them all the time here in SELA (Lafourche)

Look under downed rotted trees and logs

I see salamanders from time to time around the house. Geckos are all over my parents porch at night.

It's your guess which one is the salamander.

Go to wet areas in bottomland hardwood forests and flip over decaying logs and rocks in late winter and spring to find salamanders.

Juvenile newts are aquatic. This spring I found tons of them at lake martin with a dip net.

Those clear things you are talking about are european house geckos. They are great roach control. Pretty neat how you can see their internal organs too.
