I had one of my top 5 of all time trips with one of those. Hydrilla growing to within 1' of the surface at Cleco near the shoot. November misting rain. They would hit it and make a splash like a topwater bait. It was unreal.

I think I'm gonna try to paint some like you did. Any recommendations or tips? What kind of paint etc.?

I'd think nail polish would work well

I used it on a spinner bait head, but still have not used that spinner bait.

You had a whole thread on trying to make the perfect spinnerbait and never used it?

Sandblast. Spray paint (tape is your friend). Glitter. Clear coat.

Don't forget to take the hooks off and tape the bill.

Used to repaint all old cranks we had in the box and slaughter em on the homemade colors

Actually, the one in the picture was 'painted' with Sharpie type pens, then epoxied.

Got some pics of your spray painted balsas?

We paint bandits. The balsas remain untouched and only used for tournaments

I've never really used crankbaits.... What type of condition( around cypress knees for example) call for one to use a crankbait?

Who makes balsa cranks? Aren't some of lucky craft's wood?

I've never had a whole lot of success with them but I was under the impression they're good around grass lines and over submerged grass.

They are great for that if you can keep em out the grass.

Mine plows into the grass once and im pissed at it though. Thats why i like the footloose. I bury it far less and catch plenty fish in gibson on it.

I didn't really use them much until the last couple of years. You can run them through grass, but be prepared to spend a few seconds after each cast picking grass off.

My favorite way is to bounce them off of structure, like trees or cypress knees.

I use the deep diving crankbaits around piers.

THIS RIGHT HERE

Love me some crankin'. Lipless cranks work better in grass IMO. It's easier to keep it in the top of the grass. It gets hung up?? No problem, rip it free and hold on.

I bang crankbaits into everything - rip rap, submerged timber, docks. The more you bang it around, the more fish you're going to catch.

what he said...don't get pissed when you get caught up in grass, get the right rod for the situation and rip it through, they will smash it
