I don't get down as much as some now that I live in TX. But even fishing big lake I have noticed a big uptick.in sharks.

I don't remember ever catching or having issues with sharks besides maybe a few at the Jetties in Cameron on live bait back in the 90's early 2000's.

Now have sharks hitting DSL, spoons, and popping corks. Same as the ladyfish and gaff top infestation. Weird.

The 50s and 60s were 60-70 years ago. That’s completely irrelevant to populations now.

You made my point for me. Once something is labeled endangered it’s near impossible to get them off that list. Even if over populated bc of the PC bs.

I saw a 12-15’ hammerhead today at SS209. Absolute giant.

Sharks have been on this planet longer than pretty much everything that's currently living on it. I'd say they've learned to adapt pretty well over the years. Also this tactic isn't unique to sharks, there's a lot of other marine life that does the same thing.

This.

They are survivors and obviously can adapt. Whether it is a cognitive understanding or instinct, Salmon Sharks come from S. CA and Mexico waters to congregate when the Salmon are running in the NW, Canada and Alaska.

Other sharks learn to congregate for mating and feasting at certain areas. Can sharks adapt to boat motors and Pavlov's Classical Conditioning to learn where they can get an easy meal with the least energy expended?

Todays update. Struggled to catch our limit of snapper yesterday, SOB’s were on every single reef, wreck, rig…one of our best spots had a ton of fish on it, but couldn’t get one past them. Pulled one in that had two other leaders trailing. His limit was three, because he had a split open belly leaving us. In one case, damn thing ate two of our fish at once, on opposite sides of the boat. What a cluster. They were even gobbling up small pieces of squid we were dropping down to catch Vermillions.

Most of them are way too big to handle, and my partner is adamant about no firearms onboard. Oddly, they didn’t seem to bother with mangroves or beeliners, but hook a hammer snapper, and he’s shark chow.

I told Mark at Superior Tackle he should be paying a commission to them. Lead at $.30/ounce and fluorocarbon almost doubling in price is costing more than the fuel bill. Something HAS to be done.

I think they are beautiful animals that need to be respected. We fail to remember that we are going into their home, not the opposite. The sharks have always been there, but some people put themselves in danger by going for a swim or entering the water early in the morning or early evening when they are most likely to feed.

Sharks, at least in the GOM and US waters are over populated, same as gators. No issues with thinning out either.

Respect the hell outa them. Thats cool.

But they still need to be respectfully thinned out a good bit, maybe to the point they associate death with the sound of a boat or trolling motor

Good grief, how many times has this silly phrase been repeated in this thread?

Must be from a generation of kids growing up watching the animal planet.

same...but its coastal erosion, loss of habitat. Big Lake is far more open and salty on the South end now.
