I absolutely love it. My favorite rimfire for sure. Have 2. The savage 93r17- with accutrigger, and wood stock/ heavy barrel is amazing out the box.

Add a bipod. Taking head shots on squirrels at 50 put plus yards is one of the most fun things I've ever done hunting!

Have had the Savage A17 since it came out. Great for letting kids shoot at the range before a deer rifle. It’s my truck gun around the farm as well. Have killed pigs, coyotes, armadillos, headshots on squirrels.

Don't sleep on the Mach 2 either.
I much prefer the mach 2.

I have a 17 Mach 2 and my son has a 17 HMR. Both are Savage bolts. I think the 17 M2 is the perfect squirrel hunting rifle for still hunting. OTOH, ammo availability is very limited. I fear that one day the M2 will have gone the way of the buffalo. If you buy or own a M2, buy plenty of ammo and store it. Generally talking, the 17 HMR is more flexible.

17 HMR ammo can be hit or miss, but it's usually more accurate than non-target 22 LR ammo. To find the most accurate round for your 17, you may have to try different types. Regardless of the label, all US 17 HMR ammo is made by CCI or Winchester.

I agree. I bought a bunch when I got my rifle. I only use it for squirrels, so it should last a while.
