I'd like to know a little more info about the surgery and long term prognosis, but I'd have a hard time not spending that money. I've spent much more on surgeries for my dog and don't regret it in the least
This probably.
I would spend a LOT of money for my two dogs. But I would say only having her a few months makes that a much harder decision. Is she truly part of the family, attached etc? (I get attached to dogs in like 45 minutes, but I understand not everyone thinks like that. )
Those are selfish questions, but it's the truth. If the vet thinks she can live a good life with the surgery...itd be hard not to spend the money.
P.s. the wife and I stopped traffic one morning on the way to church(on i49 mind you) to pick up this dog that had been hit and was limping in the middle of the road. Took her to the ER vet. $800 in tests/surgery later, they tell us she is ate up with heartworm and probably wouldn't live long either way. Had her put down...$1000 bill for a dog I knew a max of 3 hours. Still thought long on hard about trying heartworm treatment. Broke my heart to give up on her.

I am beginning to think that maybe you're just dumb, so it might not be your fault. A dog get run over and you post,
I mean, this is like 85 IQ level shite. Did you not read the other posts in reply to this idiocy?

I never will understand why people get a dog that can’t afford it. Take this crap to Facebook if you’re looking for some sympathy.
With all due respect... you appear to be the one having a prime facebook meltdown.
As for OP, I haven't seen where you mention breed/ expected size of the dog when adult. A broken pelvis now could cause serious hip/back issues later down the road. Not sure I would put my pup through that suffering/pain.
Tough situation, for sure. No right answer. No wrong answer. Just judgement directed in your direction abound.

I'm always for trying to save a pet if they can be saved and have quality of life. Would be moreso for my kids sake.

Shes a lab/terrier mix aka mutt. With her only being approx 6mths old, I dont expect her to get much bigger. She currently weighs right at 50lbs.
I contacted the vet again this morning and we have decided not to do surgery but just pain management. She said with or without surgery, the dog will not be the same mobility wise but she has seen miracles before. Ive been giving her small doses of demerol and flexeril to keep her relaxed and preventing spasms. She said I should see an improvement in 4 weeks since she is still a young dog. So its a waiting game.

But I’d pay it. Especially because I inflicted the injury.
but did you really? or was the dog just not smart enough to move from under the truck after you've cranked it?

Sue yourself on behalf of the dog and get your insurance to cover.

You do realize dogs only live about 10-15 years, don’t you. They’re going to die before you know it anyway.
OP just needs to put the pup out of her misery and go to the pound and get another one.

Need to put the dog down. Unless 2500 is not much to you, no reason to take on a financial burden to save a dog, especially when it will live in pain.

I’m a vet and will give you my best advice not knowing exactly what injuries are present. Pelvic fractures can heal w/out surgery depending on where fractures are, how badly displaced or moved the bones are, and if there is blockage of normal colon function.
If there is a femur fracture they generally require surgery unless incomplete and not displaced.
Your Vet should be able to give you a very good idea how surgery will turn out. Not much guesswork there.
$2500 is pretty inexpensive for major pelvic surgery. Pain management should include minimum of a NSAID and Tramadol or Morphine if your Vet carries.
Again I am providing this information without knowing everything. You may want to seek second opinion from veterinary surgeon or veterinarian that does a lot of orthopedic surgery.
I’ve seen animals recover from some really bad injuries without surgery but your window for best surgical outcome will shut soon.
Hope this helps.

dogs and kids on on equal ground? Not at my house. If one of my kids bit the other they'd get an arse whippin but,if our dog bit one of our kids he'd get a bullet or a shovel.
A dog is great and all. But you can replace it. Comparing dogs and financial hardship to situations one may have caring for children is beyond stupid.
Bossier is at it again.

one, but keep in mind for next time if\when this situation comes around again,it's also very important you look after your dog like you would your kids, if you had done this you would not be in the situation to begin with.Owning a dog is serious business and it's your responsibility to look after your dog as well as your kids. no way in hell should anyone allow their dog to roam free unattended in or around where cars are moving. It's a tough lesson to learn but i hope you get it now.
Kids and dogs are not equal, nor is my responsibility equal to both
