I read the Indian Creek Chronicles while on the stand last weekend. It's about a feller who spends the winter alone in the wilderness.

I don’t think this means what you think it means. Maybe if you read a book every once in a while you’d know that.

To answer the OP-and although I don’t read in the stand-Elmore Leonard’s westerns are some great books. I also echo the posters above about Ambrose, Capstick, Ruark and Corbett.

Erik Prince’s “Executive Outcomes” is also a terrific read, as are several other similar books about the wars in Africa (I can’t remember the authors off of the top of my head).

Jim Corbett and Kenneth Anderson have some great books about hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in India. They are quick reads and perfect for the stand.

just finished book called TEXAS RANGER by John Boessenecker,it’s about famous Ranger-Frank Hamer,he’s the one that tracked down Bonnie and Clyde

Fun fact, The site if Hamer’s boyhood home is on our deer lease.

I recently read Dead Mountain about the dyatlov pass incident. Interesting stand reading for sure.

-Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
-Blood and Honor by George Anastasia
-Made Men by Greg Smith

3 of my faves. 1st is self explanatory but 2nd is the best mob book ever written. It’s about the Nicky Scarfo era in Philly. 3rd is about the jersey mob aka the real sopranos.

I have a number of authors I read.
Stephen Hunter. The movie and tv series "The Shooter" are based on his main character/hero, Vietnam war sniper Bob Lee Swagger. My favorite was the first book in the series, "Point of Impact." He has other series that are spun off from various characters in the Bob Lee Swagger books. He also wrote a number of other stand alone books the were good.
Lee Child. The Jack Reacher movies are based on his books.
Brad Thor, already mentioned by someone.
Vince Flynn. Similar to Brad Thor's book using an anti-terrorist theme. Flynn died recently, but his books are being written by someone else.
John Sandford, "Prey" series. Murder mystery.
David Baladacci has a couple of different series. I liked the "Camel Club" books. I'm currently reading the "Will Robie" , "King and Maxwell" and "John Puller" books and like them all.
Daniel Silva. An Israeli Mossad agent who works has a cover job as a restorer of classical art saves the world from terrorists in every book.
James Patterson. Murder mystery.
Nelson DeMille. Most of his books are stand alone, but of his series books, the John Corey is my favorite. His book, "The General's Daughter", was the basis for the John Travolta movie of the same name.

Man eaters of Tsavo by John Henry Patterson

Movie “ Tbr Ghost and the Darkness” was based on this book.

Second Brad Thor, also Vince Flynn.
Any John Sandford if you like police books.

I quit reading in the stand when a very nice buck was standing about 75 yards from me when I looked up. Never had a chance. Had no idea how long he’d been there.

The term "still hunting" is in the LDWF hunting regs, Cletus. Study harder.

They next 14 hours will be spent flying or in airports. Downloaded a few of the books recommended. Surprised how many were available as audiobooks but not listed under books.

What do YOU think it means?

A Sand County Almanac is a good one.

If you like westerns, Louis L'amour.
