Jim Jack Jose always starting trouble, then he tries to apply the old 180 degree trick. Tries to assign his behavior to me. The old 180 degree trick.

Sorry cap. You are the troublemaker. I am the sensible outdoor discussion participant.

Thats because people like you must have common sense explained to them. Sharper, experienced individuals, its understood.

Common sense is that the problem with bow shops is cliques?

Come on, man. That's ridiculous, even for you.

Common sense is that big box stores with massive inventories, as well as internet retailers, have killed bow shops. I'd much rather order supplies through Lancaster with their near-infinite inventory and lower prices than my small, local bow shop.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, you eventually have to turn off the computer, and face reality in the mirror.

I quit going to local shops when I couldn’t find the expertise I was looking for.

I’d went to a few shops willing to pay and wait for a well tuned bow and what I got in return sucked. So I got a press, drawboard, vise, etc. I try to buy stuff locally but I feel like they prey on uninformed customers with price or by pushing garbage.

I needed some axis 300 shafts and drove all the way to American hunter in Covington to get some. They were really nice and had reasonable prices. Through some conversation I think they are doing good work there and I wish they were closer.

My favorite shop was Sportsman’s corner in Baker. I grew up going in there and they were always willing to help me with whatever I needed. I remember buying my 1st bow in 92 and Mr Frank helping me get setup . I was a high school student and didn’t have the money for all the accessories. He let me use a sight and rest so I could shoot until I’d saved some more . He’s been closed for awhile now but I still think about how cool I thought that place was.

This is where I’m at with most things.

I know it’s not a popular opinion here, but I bought my new bow from Bowie this spring. I’ll say the little guy that helped me initially didn’t know much about archery, but he knew enough to go ask for help. And the guy running the bow shop did. Now, if he was 21 that’s probably being generous, but he knew what he was talking about and let me shoot his personal bow because they didn’t have a Hoyt setup with what I wanted. Let me ask a ton of questions and I shot 5 or 6 bows before making my decision. Bow was setup and tuned properly and they let me dial in my sight when I went back to pick it up.

I’ve bought rods and reels, and several guns from them. They’re big enough to be priced competitively but small enough to have a knowledgeable staff and helpful staff at least with my interaction with them.

But it’s difficult to find good service at small shops.

Crossbows killed the archery store, much like video killed the radio store.
