Their inside undercover guy told them not to proceed, that Koresh had been tipped off and was ready for a fight...
Is that 100% accurate... Genuinely curious.
Not only is it accurate, the gunfight started when a fed had a negligent discharge and then everyone else started shooting.
They could have called it off at any time but they had too much money, time, and ego invested in the raid.

So why didnt the messiah(2) send out the children? the feds asked repeatedly during the standoff...so why wouldnt he send out the children?

I didn't know this until just now. Puts what he did into an entirely different context.
I wouldn't put it that way necessarily.
However, I would say that when the govt behaves the way it did in Ruby Ridge and Waco, you almost certainly SHOULD lay some of the blame for what happens after at the government's feet.
Now, McVeigh was honestly correct that the govt "had it coming". Where he failed is that he was far to general in his targeting.
In going for a big splash, dude killed a bunch of children and general office workers.
He'd have sent a far better message blowing up some small FBI field office or, directly targeting people involved in those incidents

Both sides (Koresh and the feds are to blame). If the ATF or FBI have an arrest warrant for me, I'm not getting 51 days to negotiate.

Not defending the guy necessarily but from what I understand he did not claim to be the Messiah, he claimed God spoke to him. Whether or not people believe that or not is up to them, I have a hard time buying it and I don't know why he didn't send out the kids.
What I do know is that democrat Bill Clinton and democrat Janet Reno signed off on an assault that murdered 25 children and they didn't bat an eye over it.
And that's all I need to know

Just started watching this the other day. If you don't think the alphabet agencies are evil after watching that, I don't know what to tell you.

The way it's portrayed in the series, he didn't send out the kids because he was afraid they would be taken from their families and the parents all thrown in jail forever. Given what the feds had already done to them, I can't say that's unfounded logic. They just wanted to be left alone.

If I was stockpiling illegal weapons, I'd want to be left alone too, but that's not how laws work. The fact that he was being served a search and arrest warrant and opened fire first on the ATF (thats according to media members who were there) is what triggered this to happen.
Had he just been practicing his religion, then nobody would have bothered him

Again, I haven't done independent research yet, but it's portrayed in the series that this was a setup by the ATF in order to revamp their image in the wake of Ruby Ridge. And it's also portrayed that the ATF fired on their dogs first which started the shootout.
What illegal weapons was he allegedly stockpiling?

Go research and you'll find all of that out. You'll also see that the local sheriff called the ATF to investigate.

That goes against testimony given by independent media members who testified that the first shots came from within the compound.
Both sides fricked up, but the series portrays Koresh in a more positive light than what was reality

From the Dallas Morning News
quote:
The McLennan County Sheriff's Department asked ATF to investigate possible federal gun violations in May 1992, after a UPS driver reported delivering big shipments of gun parts, ammo, grenade hulls and chemicals and military gear to Koresh and his followers. The sheriff's department also had reports of explosions and automatic gunfire at Mount Carmel, the sect's property. ATF investigators determined the group was amassing an arsenal, including the means to make illegal weapons. Former followers told ATF before its raid — and at least five surviving Davidians testified afterward — that Koresh taught his followers that he was the Lamb of God and the weapons were for an apocalyptic battle in which they would all be killed; he would be resurrected along with faithful followers to slaughter and judge God's enemies.
That's a pretty ambiguous accusation

There was no defensible reason for the no knock raid. They were selling all that stuff at gun shows. They had a lathe and a mill I think. That's not illegal. That's called machine tools. Had they just gone in with a couple of agents and asked to explain what was going on like they normally do, this wouldn't have happened. But that wouldn't have been awesome video to play at their budget hearing.
They didn't roll on those people like that because they thought they were going to be in a fight. They rolled on them like that because they thought they could do it and look tough vs a bunch of women and children and old folks practicing a weird version of Seventh Day Adventism that they could claim was a dangerous cult.

A firearms expert from the Federal Bureau of Investigation testified today that 48 fully automatic weapons were found in the charred ruins of the Branch Davidian compound near Waco, Tex.

Most of the materials found were legal, Mr. Cadigan testified, but 48 weapons had been illegally modified to be fully automatic. These included 20 AK-47's, 2 MP-5's, 2 Mac-11's and 22 M-16's.

So not even two guns per murdered child?

Point to where I said that. If you had read the thread, you would see where I said both sides are to blame, but to act like Koresh was just out there thumping his Bible is inaccurate
