The absurdity of granting a patent on a fricking seed.
This just shows me how extremely stupid you are. This isnt just some seed. Millions of dollars of research and development goes into creating GMO's. If you don't think a company should be able to profit off their hard work then you are an idiot. There is good reason why countries with strong proprietary protection laws breed intervention.
Damn, I triggered the frick out of someone.

Also karma for Bayer for their WWII Nazi work, some of which resulted in glycophosphates in the 1st place.

I have no problems with GMOs. We way overuse chemicals though.
Soil is the biggest pollutant in the world so let go back to more tillage and less chemicals and see how that works out

Gotta love fake science.

This company has poisoned the earth and us at a rate that you will never understand. Cancer rates, ADHD, Alzheimers, Autism, Birth Defects, etc. etc. etc. are directly proportional to the use of Roundup. The product needs to be banned world-wide.
Rotenone is an approved organic pesticide that way more carcinogenic than roundup and also causes parkinson’s but keep on shopping at Whole Foods and believing Monsanto is some big bad boogeyman

I could go down 10 different rabbit holes with some of the takes brought up in this topic. The market typically pays the carry to store grain if sellers have storage, kinda the whole point of futures markets. I’m getting confused, are we pissed at farmers for not planting crops on certain acres to help replenish soil/(and getting money from the govt to do so) or are we pissed because farmers are overapplying fert/herbicide and poisoning the world?

Or nicotine. 100% “all natural” pesticide. Now... go have a look at MLD for nicotine vs Roundup and tell me which you’d prefer.

You know that USDA has conservation policies that pay farmers not to grow or to grow only certain things, which are then not sold or consumed. USDA pays a rental fee for the land.
Also subsidies are granted to farmers based on market prices, which farmers get to choose which day to base the subsidy on, and the subsidy applies whether they sell the crops or not.

Right, cover cropping has been around for a while. Planting the same crops continuously leads to soil erosion and fertilizer leaching. I’ve never heard of anyone not selling their oats, wheat, barley, vegs they plant as a cover crop? Why would anyone voluntarily grow a cover crop for less than the regular crop without some assistance? Most cover crops are grown at a loss but get a gain in yield the next year.
Are you referring to crop insurance? I’m not following you here. Subsidies establish a price floor set by the govt and payments are based on your historic yield per acre

Most crp and wrp acres shouldn’t be in production anyway
Cover crops which are great for the environment are the only thing I know that farmers will grow and not sale

And you literally have zero proof of any of this.
Which indigenous plants were killed? I’m pretty sure corn and soy aren’t indigenous.

If you are referring to plc and arc. Farmers have to elect which program to enroll in every four years ( every new farm bill) and they get paid on a percentage of historical acres and yield
Beans and Corn haven’t been paid a plc since the program started and most counties have only gotten small arc payments
As far as holding grain until next crop year, seems more common in the Midwest with smaller farmers. Most guys in the south sale their crops before the next harvest. Also most good size farmers don’t have enough storage to store their whole crop so it’s not really worth it to pay storage fees for long on a chance the price might go way up

The seed wouldn’t were it not for genetic engineering.
A few years ago Monsanto discussed using a terminator gene so that saved seed wouldn’t germinate, and everybody lost their shite. You can’t have it both ways.
