Black Students hit hardest with school debt
Black students just don't pay back their debt, like most other debt categories.

Nice. Straight to the racist card.

Every black person I know after graduation got a student loan and bought a brand new car. Weird.

Honest question, are any of them worth a damn? My only exposure is to Tuskegee "engineering" grads, and sub-par is being kind. I hope some of them are putting out a good product or these kids are throwing money away unless the ESG nonsense tips the scales.

Are they hit hardest or are they more likely not to pay off the loan? There is a difference.

Feels like colleges should bear the burden.
Can't afford to go to school here? Scholarships available using DONATIONS from alumni and other sources. Not government. No government backed bullshiat loans for someone pursuing a degree that has no merit.
Students can't repay it? Why? Fix it. Maybe don't enroll poor students. Maybe change the degrees offered. Maybe charge less. I dunno. But there has to be a solution. If Tyler Perry can pay off loans for an entire graduating class, schools can probably find funding for a good number of scholarships.
It's absurd what college costs now, and it's not that the quality has improved.

quote:Well there's a big chunk of it there: student loan programs are giveaways to universities, saddling students with the debt. If all you can say is "duhhh you signed the contract" then you're missing the big picture. It's a form of enslavement, and no, I don't expect 18yo or 25yo to see the whole picture. I don't know what the right solution is, but it's not fair to charge exorbitant amounts for crappy education, and HBCU's may not be exorbitant, but they're crappy as hell. Look at Southern - the best GPA money can buy.
Black students also more likely to attend historically black colleges.

Correct. They wouldn't be approved for any other sort of loan

Can't imagine why. Most of them go to college to say they are in college. Meanwhile, half the time they are hanging out in common areas bullshitting all day, going to step shows and just in general like to say "I'm on campus"
