This would work, except every state is split between blue cities and red rural areas with purple suburbs in between. If you could say the people between Virginia and Arizona are of one accord that might work, but are they of one accord in leaving the Union? You might lose a lot of support that is otherwise with you over something that dramatic, and even if it works, there are going to be skirmishes, fights, food shortages, and terror attacks throughout every state even without the military getting involved.
