A little education on black masses. They were a little pomp and ceremony put on by shysters and murderers.

Basically a priest looking to make some more coin would blackmail or be hired by a local "witch" or alchemist who was helping people poison others.

Then the priest would join in to authenticate and "bless" the product so the client knew they were getting the real deal.

For a mass to be Black it just needs to be a parody or heretical. No babies need to be sacrificed. No virgins deflowered etc etc.

Even the below is probably embellished for the court. There's claims of babies being found in a mass grave which apparently aren't supported by the French records of the investigation.

Summers provides a further account of the incantation used by Guibourg himself:[2]

Astaroth, Asmodeus, princes of friendship and love, I invoke you to accept the sacrifice, this child that I offer you, for the things I ask of you. They are that the friendship and love of the King and the Dauphin may be assured to me, that I may be honoured by all the princes and princesses of the Court, that the King deny me nothing I ask whether it be for my relatives or for any of my household.

It's a colorful history if you look into it. But the reality of Satanists involved is a bit off. Mostly just people who wanted make fun of the church, blasphemy, or sell poison.
