And I also agree with the other poster commenting that Gary isn't much better.
They should come further east to Fort Wayne. Much bigger population to support the team.

Gary / Hammond Indiana is part of the Chicago metro area. It only like 25 miles from downtown Chicago.

There was a Chicago thread on the OT a few weeks ago and everyone got mad at me for posting about the crime there and how people are leaving Chicago and Illinois.
Then somebody else chimed in and mentioned that the only reason they recorded an increase in population was because 100k illegals had moved to the city in 2024.

I have no issue with them keeping the name Chicago.
The Gary Bears just sounds like a group of big, hairy gay men. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I agree with their desire to leave that hellhole, but they shouldn't be Able to continue to use the name recognition of Chicago if they aren't even in the same state.
City governments only have the right to use the name for official business and to prevent others from falsely representing themselves as the city, but they do not own the city name as a private property. City governments don't own the name as an exclusive trademark.

Yep.

The Chicago Bears have not officially moved to Indiana, but they have taken the "most meaningful step" toward doing so. On February 19, 2026, the team announced that its main stadium focus has shifted to Hammond, Indiana, specifically a site near Wolf Lake.

While a final deal has not been signed, recent developments include:
Indiana Legislative Action: The Indiana House Ways and Means Committee unanimously passed an amendment to Senate Bill 27 on February 19, 2026. This bill establishes the Northwest Indiana Stadium Authority, allowing it to issue bonds and finance a new stadium in Hammond.
Bears' Commitment: The team has expressed a "vision" to build a world-class, $2 billion domed stadium at the Wolf Lake site. They are currently conducting site-specific due diligence to finalize plans.

The “New York” Giants and Jets have played in New Jersey for decades now.

Portage, IN has come on strong in the last 2-3 weeks as well. Their proposal is including building a new and/or expanding harbor access, donating hundreds of acres of land as well as expanding surface access in the area. That said, our wonderful governor is pushing Hammond hard.
I personally prefer Portage, but any of the 3 are ok. Hammond is in Lake County, the overall tax rate there is higher and the population density is also higher than Portage, which is in Porter County. Gary obviously has issues but it is amazing the improvements that have been made in the last 24 or so months.

Wouldn't even make it to court before it was laughed out. They are talking about moving to Hammond, IN and that is part of the Chicago Metro Area and is part of the Federally recognized Chicago MSA

Surprisingly, the Chicago Bears would be the SECOND NFL team to play in Hammond, Indiana.
From 1917 to 1926, the Hammond Pros played there, first in the NFL forerunner APFA and then from 1920 on as one of the founding franchises of the NFL:
Their colors were purple and gold.

Again, what does Chicagoland have to do with the Bears?? Are they playing there or something??
Try to keep up. Football and NASCAR aren’t the same thing.
