I would have more sympathy for them if they had done this previously with some more languages like spanish, french, whatever (maybe they did and the article just doesn't mention it).
Not only does the article mention it, it's quoted in the OP:

Her simplistic defense included a reference to “one” supportive email and a reference to a similar mistake last year which drew controversy when the pledge was recited in Spanish. Somehow not learning from and expanding upon your previous mistakes is perceived as a viable defense for these educators.

Weird.
I was thinking about the Pledge of Allegiance this morning and how as kids we used to stand beside our desks with our hands over our hearts and recite it.
One nation? Indivisible? Are we really one nation or are we a bunch of special interest groups all fighting for our piece of the pie? We are being divided daily - rich vs. poor, white vs. black, hetero vs. homo, Christian vs. non-Christian, etc. etc.
I used to believe the catch phrase, "Diversity is our strength." I now think it is a huge weakness. Diversity without unity is an overwhelming negative.

For wanting to join the club supporting "BJ Friday"? Who said it was an all-male club?

Well obviously I missed it. Had they done any others since the Spanish one?
If not, here is the question. If they had a big controversy last year with Spanish, why they hell was their next choice Arabic?

You're absolutely correct. There should be no religious references in public schools.

Obviously the issue is that "America under Allah" has a lot of connotative meaning outside of America under God (with God translated to Arabic).
Not sure that was the intent, but definitely a bad idea for the school.

If the pledge was recited in Arabic, they would not have literally said "and one nation under Allah". That would be an amalgamation of English and Arabic and most likely used by the media to spark anger in ignorant folk. The entire phrase would have been said in Arabic.

I personally think it was a brilliant troll, especially when you consider that the school response to the outrage was "Well it was student led".

Where do the prayer in school advocates stand on this?
Equally ridiculous as a Christian, jewish, jedi or wiccan prayer.

I agree, but then we wouldn't really be considered advocates would we.

So the big problem is ignorant Americans that can't understand that Allah means God? It's funny that even the Muslim guy admits that Christians in the Arabic world use the word Allah to refer to God and people still don't care beause it's not the 'Merican term.
Maybe you should just take out the '50s communist scare addition of "under God" back out of the pledge so you don't have to hear about "under Allah" anymore.

What does the language in which the Pledge is recited have to do with religion?
Saying Allah is no different than saying Gott (German for God) or Dios (Spanish for God).
If you're speaking about the actual use of God in the pledge then I would understand.

quote:No. The Christian God is made up of 3 Gods as one called the Holy Trinity. God the Father, God the son, and God the Holy Spirit.
I can see why people would be outraged... But technically (and theologically) speaking, aren't Allah and the Christian God supposed to be the same entity? I feel like I've read that somewhere. Could be wrong.
God the Son is Jesus... and obviously, Muslims do not believe Jesus is the son of God. And they don't believe in the Holy Trinity.
So no, they do not believe in the same god.

This thread is embarrassing as frick. Seriously, just amazingly embarrassing.
Kids recite pledge in other language. Crazy people think they're being forced to convert to Islam.
