It's our business to import cement and distribute it. Tarrifs have had a detrimental impact on our bottom line. The U.S. cannot make the needed cement
What is the detrimental effect then?

Show us your P&Ls for the last three years. It’s either tariffs or mismanagement.

We made $10 MILLION net profit in 2024.

Is it true that Chinese cement is an inferior product?

For the most part yes. China has two cement plants that produce cement that would be accepted in the U.S. that would meet ASTM C-150 specifications for either type I/II cement .

No, the amount needed cannot be made domestically. And the domestic supply is 90% already foreign owned. Imports are crucial to The USA. This is why concrete prices are high.

If what you say is actually tru3, then the market will correct itself. New suppliers will enter the market.

You made $10 million profit and are decimated less than two years later? Definitely a management issue.

No they wouldn't. It is a monopoly. Why? Because people don't know the difference between cement and concrete. It's not a sexy industry.

Yes, our cement import division is not functioning.

Why not simply pass the tariff costs through?

Because tariff costs are not passed through! Only foreign governments and importing firms pay the tariffs. Passing them on would raise prices and I’ve been told for a year now that tariffs absolutely do not raise consumer prices.

We got hit yesterday with $4K in tariffs on an $80K order. I challenged them today on it about whether or not the SCOTUS ruling negates it or what now.

The importer 100% pays the tariff (Tax) to the Department of Revenue

And promptly passes that along to every down the chain, who in turn does the same. Imagine thinking importers are just eating the margin No, they raise your price at the counter and you reimburse them.

I’ve already seen the hilarious pivot today on this board several times “that business/company isn’t owed reimbursement! They passed it on to the consumer so they didn’t lose anything!!”

Grifting ? The Board of Peace is a huge grift for the Trump/Kushner family to profit from "rebuilding" Gaza. Having your sons sell crypto is a huge grift. Selling Trump bibles is a grift. I can go on all night.

Huh ? The cost is passed to the consumer.

Oh, I and most reasonable people know that.

This board is not filled with such people. We had MAGA sycophants here for months preaching about how tariffs weren’t inflationary, didn’t raise prices, and were being eaten by foreign distributors and importing firms. Of course that was transparent nonsense.

I’m just enjoying mocking those posters because the new narrative today—when importers are going to want refunds from tariff costs—is going to be MAGA saying “YOU PASSED ALL THAT ON YOU DESERVE NOTHING”

You think smart businessmen only go into "sexy" industries? Holy shite. They go where there is mo ey to be made. Am I understanding that your compa y is basically an import middleman?
