That's quite an assumption.

It’s what’s been reported now for over a month

Some companies have swallowed the cost of the Tariffs but it won’t be sustainable for all. Stockholders don’t like when margins get compressed.

It's a fundamental premise of a free market. When suppliers have to pay more they charge more.

Then Costco should only be reimbursed for tariffs on items that didn't go up.

The anti-tariff bros assured us that these companies were passing on the costs. But now they want to refund the tariffs while the customers still had to pay, by their own words. So, now we have the true conservatives supporting rich corporations making more profit while the consumers pay the price.

If the consumers paid the tariffs as you people said, then why should the refund go to the corporation instead of the people who actually paid it? Oh right, corporations making the most money possible regardless of the effects on consumers or the country is the conservative thing to do.

The people wanting to refund these tariffs are simply supporting wealth redistribution from the people who they claim paid the tariffs to the already wealthy corporate leaders. But they'll still tell you how conservative they are.

Why? Its a tax they had to pay the govt regardless of whether prices increased or not.

That will be the problem for anyone wanting tariff reimbursement, assuming the Supreme Court rules that some of the tariffs are improper. What did a company like Costco actually lose - it will not be that a company just gets a straight refund.

Regardless, one thing that is surprising to me is how little tariff revenue has actually been collected. I am seeing that $215 billion was collected for the whole of fiscal year 2025, with an additional $46 billion collected for the first two months of fiscal year 2026. You might get $300-$350 billion collected over a full 12 month period.

That is roughly 3% of the total retail sales per year in the U.S. Not exactly insignificant, but it is worth noting what the max end of a true tariff tax could possibly be. In reality, the U.S. consumer will not pay the full 3% ever.

One could apply the same rigidity to you in why you support foreign governments ability to manipulate the system to their benefit. Your simplistic views expose how fragile your grasp on this subject has become

It’s been reported for months now. Walmart, target, Marshall’s, tj maxx, etc, will pass along the tariffs to consumers eventually.

It was also reported tariffs would cause a Great Depression.

Hasn’t happened.

What damages could a company possibly have since we've all been beaten over the head about tariffs being paid by the end consumer?

I already did during COVID. Long story short, I was told to put on my mask by a dick-nosing employee. Told them I wouldn't, so they called a manager. He asked me to leave, which I did after he refunded my membership. Never been back since

I certainly haven’t heard anything like that from any respectable financial press and it really isn’t relevant here anyway.

The point is that there’s a lawsuit making its way through the courts to challenge the legality of the tariffs. It’ll take some time to get settled. If they’re finally found to be illegal, there’s no way for companies to get the money back unless they sue.

Companies that paid the tariff have a fiduciary duty to try to get that money back if the tariffs are deemed illegal.

That’s what this is about

These suits are going to happen more as companies have no choice if they want to get repaid for tariffs that they paid.

They should probably figure out why tariffs exist then.
