Oil companies are nervous about the cancel culture landscape. They also had a bad experience in the 2010 to 2014 shale boom, never getting the kind of returns they anticipated.
They are being cautious this time, and they can afford to, because there is no gold rush of private equity backed startups jumping into the fray. They too are scared of the green cancel culture.

Dems slash production, kill leases, cancel pipelines, and impose unrealistic emissions and EPA standards in the middle of a recession.
"Why did corporate greed do this?"
"Why did corporate greed do this?"

Yes, it makes perfect sense that big oil would restrict themselves in an attempt to make less money.
Granted, US oil production is more laissez-faire so it responds organically to market demands which on occasion can cause a disconnect between market realities and production levels.
The alternative is to subsidize - to a greater degree than oil is already subsidized - the consistent production levels of the oil extraction and refining process.
In other words $$$
US oil will catch up to this if they need to but it is going to take time...time in which we will be spending 4 or 5 dollars a gallon I reckon which sucks arse.

You must be young. I lived through it. There was much publicity and angst. Hell, the apocalypse of killer bees received more than one article. They nursed that for months.

So did they fix that hole in the ozone layer ?
Yeah, they banned the type of freon that made your car AC get things cool 10 seconds after you started the engine. Those were the days.

Just fire back “so why didn’t corporations act greedy under Trump? Why are corporations making record profits under Joe?” See what they say to that.

Pfff people like Big Scrub believe everything the MSM prints or says. Who cares what the actual people that lived through it have to say.

So Covid ending up sealing up the ozone hole because of mask.

Take it easy on Scrub. He's a little challenged when it comes to people talking bad about Dem policies that are killing our economy. Just remember this, the Dems believe NO ONE should be in business to make a PROFIT.

What about the killer bees? That was one of my nightmares from the 80s.

Those african killer bees were right across the border if I remember correctly in Mexico. I guess they couldn't swim across the Rio Grande.

Unfortunately the fear mongering never stops from that side. So predictable to the people that actually look.

quote:Meh. Not really. I would say on the private company side, they have actually already been canceled. Many of their long-term, institutional investors have gone "ESG" and refuse to fund drilling anymore.
Oil companies are nervous about the cancel culture landscape.
quote:This is awfully neutral language for what really happened: overly optimistic (and some cynical) industry practitioners vaporized ~$1 trillion in investor dollars over the past 10 years.
They also had a bad experience in the 2010 to 2014 shale boom, never getting the kind of returns they anticipated.
quote:You're still giving too much credit to fear of cancellation. What they're really afraid of, IMO, is pissing off investors by doing the same stupid shite again.
They are being cautious this time, and they can afford to, because there is no gold rush of private equity backed startups jumping into the fray. They too are scared of the green cancel culture.

I'm still worried about the coming Ice Age they promised in the 1970's.

So, “Big Oil” wanting profits is the problem, not the big potato saying he was going to frick their entire industry, burn it to the ground, then piss on the ashes?

I was too. The motherfricker just closed right up after the 80s/90s hairspray phase died.

Why would they want to ramp up production just to possibly be shut back down again on the whim of a fricking politician???? Anyone who doesn’t understand this is a moron.
