Possibly, but the link is wash examiner, not the post.

All it takes is one (significant or insignificant) DeSantis staffer who doesn’t like Trump or really wants DeSantis to be the nominee making something up to a media contact for a specific intended purpose.

Localized disaster that has national attention, and were he president would not do that rally. He should do the same now.

What effect does the rally have on the recovery/clean up effort?

This is one of those rakes Trump doesn't need to step on, use an inner monologue and hit a different state or part of FL

It's friggin Sarasota.
It's like Chopin to New Orleans...why cancel an event that far away?

Shows respect, Shows class, and shows he is everyone’s president.

Look, it’s not like this is a major deal. I am saying if I were his aid I would share my position of why he shouldn’t. If he said he would anyway then we move forward with the rally.

I’m not sitting here pounding my fists and cussing at Trump. Just a perspective I hold.

None.

At this point there are 140 some grease spots to be located.

I agree - I don't know how much is already invested in holding the rally - but it cannot be very much.

Would be a favorable, if not significant, gesture. Wish he would take advantage of it.

This will be the headline for the next several years to divide the base. This is like clockwork.

So it's about virtue signaling? I've had about enough of that bullshite. How many people that will go to a Trump rally, know a person who was in that building?

200 miles? That's not too close. You cannot get heels within 200 miles of the southern border

If that is how you look at it. I call it showing compassion for your countrymen as a former leader of our country.

A thousand times this. People loyal to the establishment are in every nook and cranny. Establishment would love nothing more than to stir up a rift between Trump and Desantis supporters.

People need to stop falling for this shite and buying into it right away.

Can Floridians even celebrate the 4th of July in a few days? I mean, Floridians need to "read the room" and not celebrate. People are still trapped in that rubble. Celebrations where people are laughing and having a good time is tone deaf!

Same logic.

And what about the possibility that folks connected with that tragic situation and many of their neighbors actually want President Trump there to lift their spirits? Is that possibility any less likely than the other way around??

Good point. His message could be a big factor in showing goodwill as well. I like that perspective.

The article says someone named Susie always butts heads with DeSantis. The article reads like one person in the DeSantis entourage does not like Trump and wants king status for DeSantis. It is petty political stuff...
quote:

But one top state GOP official downplayed the rift.

“It is completely untrue that there is a rift between Gov. DeSantis and President Trump or between their teams," Helen Aguirre Ferre, the Florida Republican Party's executive director, said Wednesday. "To the contrary. Gov. DeSantis knows the Republican Party of Florida is working with the Trump team for the July 3rd rally in Sarasota in celebration of the founding of our country. In addition, we are encouraging all those who are attending to generously contribute to the victims of the tragedy at Surfside.” She also is a former DeSantis aide.
Also in the article that a butt hurt Trump hater planted to the newspaper. A fact got mixed in that Trump spearheaded the Ivanka help for the condo tragedy. Some people help and some people do photo ops, some do both.

True, another good point. But regular people are not rallying for your support for a national office.

Somebody has to be a grown up. Things have to keep on keeping on. There are disasters every day, and essential functions must continue as normal. National politics are an essential function.

The rally is also going to be a fundraiser for the victims and their families. It's in the article.
