I've been a supporter of both, though less of Desantis. But this is nothing. Permanent alimony should never have existed. There is no legitimate argument for why an adult needs to have a lifetime paycheck from a person, simply on the basis that they were once married. What kind of sense does that make?

but DeSantis is so much more electable in the eyes of the coveted white suburban women vote

With all that's happening and all that's at stake, THIS is your final straw?
OK

Democrat posing as a Republican to trash a Republican candidate. Try to find a better issue for your faux outrage. I’ll give you an E for effort.

To quote the late great supreme court justice Oliver Wendell Holmes
"I don't see why a big husky Irish woman can't work more than 40 hrs a week" ( laws prohibiting overtime)
....Not sure why a divorcee can't either (laws prohibiting permanent alimony)

You damn grifters should have to pay your own way.
Equal rights. Remember?
Good for DeSantis.

I knew a blue collar guy, machinist, whose life was a horror story over that bullshite. He made about half what I did and when he told me what his child support was I about choked on my coffee. I would have had a hard time paying it. The cherry on top was the ex-wife's boyfriend moved in to the house he was paying for, and all they had to do was not get married and the free ride continued. He was barely scraping by and she was using alimony for the boyfriend's Camaro.

Of all the many years and all the Govs of FL not one has ever signed a bill that eliminates permanent alimony and also signed a bill that allow paternity to be established by signing a BC. Frick DeSantis. I'm voting for Trump. Next thing you know, he will eliminate child support due to 50/50 timesharing.
This is a GREAT thing. No more being a worthless freeloader on your ex's dime because you want to spread your legs for the pool boy.
You want equality? Go get a fricking job like men have to.

What is your justification for permanent alimony?
I wasn't aware that Florida even had permanent alimony so I looked up what changes this bill would make:
quote:
The new law also introduces modifications to the durational alimony structure. Durational alimony may not be awarded in a marriage less than three years in length. The length of durational alimony is now prescribed – not to exceed 50% of a short-term marriage (which would be less than 10 years – a change from the current 7 years), 60% of a moderate-term marriage (which would be 10-20 years – a change from the current 7-17 years), and 75% of a long-term marriage (which would be 20 years or more – a change from the current 17+ years).
LINK
So if I'm reading this correctly, the situation that I think would be most justified for alimony would be the case of a long-term marriage where the wife had not worked for the purpose of raising children, then the husband trades her in for a newer model, leaving her middle-aged, broke with no recent job history to allow her to start a decent job supporting herself. If they had been married 20 years, she would still get 15 years of alimony.
How is that not an adequate amount of time to gain some job skills and support yourself?
This part is fun too:
quote:
It also now prescribes for the first time some type of formula for a guideline for the amount of alimony. This is huge considering the Courts have previously had complete discretion over the amount provided it did not leave the payor destitute. The amount of durational alimony will be determined by reasonable need or not to exceed 35% of the difference between the net incomes of the parties, whichever is less.
So all this time Florida judges have just been throwing out alimony numbers like The Price is Right with no formula???

Just gave you an upvote. Not because of why you decided to dump DeSantis (I respect your opinion) because Ron DeSantis would not be good for America. He's a empty suit who has never been in the private sector and is the product of government.
This county's prosperity and liberty was built on the back of free market capitalism. We need someone in the WH that can restore manufacturing and hard work in the USA. Donald Trump has been there and done that. He is the ONLY ONE that can do it and save us.

DeSantis served in the military but you would like him better if he took a job making serious bank on Wall Street after he graduated from Harvard Law with Honors? K. He's also made the business environment in Florida as good as anywhere in the country and runs that state on literally half of what the budget is in NY with a surplus and tax cuts.
Trump avoided service and worked for his Dad and went from being a kid that inherited millions to being a billionaire.
You have interesting priorities.

It's safe to say DeSantis lost MILLIONS of votes from Floridians when he nixed an ambitious flood-control investment for Central Florida, while at the same time defunded a 1619 Black History Fest and 5K black history run event.
Not smart moves for a man who wants to become POTUS.
