You can draw alimony for half the length of the marriage.
This will curtail gold-diggers divorcing dudes after a year or 2, and demanding a "lifestyle".
If you are with a guy for 10 years, why should he pay your allowance for your entire life?
I am honestly asking. If you have kids together, he can pay you child support. Why should a man be forced to support a grown woman he is not married to?

Why should alimony be permanent? Why should anyone pay child support if custody is 50/50?
Alimony really shouldn’t exist at all but if it has to then 5 years should be the cap, that’s plenty of time to go get a degree and be useful.
Child support is designed for cases of less than 50/50 custody. No need to pay it if you both have 50/50 both should be contributing.
