Most of this board seems to think interest rates have been kept artificially low for decades to juice markets. Why go back to that?
I think you know why.
Selfishly I wouldn’t mind them going down but it’s clear why this board thinks they should go down

Just like you said Trump wouldn’t be president again and couldn’t win the primary. You know it all…

Have prices really come down? Even if we just got out of that situation, why pour gas back on the fire? Most of this board seems to think interest rates have been kept artificially low for decades to juice markets. Why go back to that?
Because there is a heck of a difference between 0 interest rates AND quantitative easing to the tune of trillions.....and 5 percent interest rates.
And the pesky fact our interest payments are a trillion dollars now.

We all knew Powell would do this. Don’t hurt yourself patting your own back.

I definitely didn't see the Mr. Too Late one coming. Trump'll surprise ya every once in a while!

No, he's begging for the fed to save his arse one more time.
I dont think that is a fair assessment. If you do A, B and C then it should warrant a rate change, regardless who is in charge.
Inflation was just starting to get under control in August 2024 and Powell dropped rates stating this one reason.
A. Inflation is at a normal pace right now all things considering. and .5% points behind last year. Lower inflation should warrant a lower rate.
B. The tariff war is going to slow down the economy for a little bit. I think everybody agrees with that. Regardless, of fault, that slow down should warrant a lower rate.
C. Unemployment is about the same. So this would be a wash.
So, with these things happening right now, why arent FED rates being dropped a little right now?
