He still does this even though he makes Tesla's which if Trump cuts back on tax credits to green energy, $7,500 I believe for citizens if they buy a Tesla (new I believe), could end up hurting his sales.
Based on his handling of Starship, I think Elon believes that his products are good and will find their market no matter the subsidy.

I like Musk. I find his interviews compelling.
And I don't see exactly how embracing the Trump campaign is going to make him money. I wish someone would explain that to me.
All that being said, Musk is a perfect example of the strange truth that rational thinking does not equate with intelligence. And the reason I say that is his buy in on "climate change".
Super intelligent people often lack two elements that rational thought requires. The first is natural skepticism and the second is curiosity. High achievers, particularly in Tech, tend to focus 99% of their time and thinking on those factors that determine their success in excelling in their field and their interests, in general. They have very little time for and interest in other issues outside of their "thing".
And that explains why a guy like Musk can be so brilliant in some aspects and so deluded in others. I will bet you $100 he has never read an entire scientific paper on climate science. I'll also bet he never gave the details about it much thought. He hasn't investigated the train of thought. He's never examined the actual claims of researchers and contrasted those with the take of popular media or politicians.
Intelligence is the spotlight. But it can only be shown in one direction at a time. Some people, innately curious, wander around, shining their light and discovering all sorts of things. Others focus that light on what is relevant to them... focus like a laser beam . That's Elon.
And that also explains how a guy like Elon could have been hoodwinked by the left and LTGBQ up until it affected his son and hurt him emotionally. It finally gained his attention and he did a 180.

???
One of the smartest men in the world supposedly got duped into letting his son transition. That's not a badass.
He is a opportunistic business man that's it. Whatever ideals you agree with him on, don't let that cloud your overall judgment.
