Kinda weird since it doesn't come out for another year..

You want the final product to be the only product. Sorry science doesn’t work like that. Wright brothers didn’t give up after failures neither did any other people responsible for scientific breakthroughs. We wouldn’t have landed on the moon with your line of thinking. You have some ulterior political issue with musk and it shows.

Why are you so obsessed with climate change and why do you invoke it in almost every thread. No one gives a frick what you believe.

Oh, you think this is political? I'm willing to bet that Elon Musk and I line up on more issues than you might think. It has absolutely nothing to do with politics and everything to do with the fact that he has yet to put a man in space, yet continues to trumpet that he's going to put a man on Mars by the end of 2022.

Pretty low standard of wrecking there. Guess that’s what happens when the referee came directly from the bench of the other team. Nice input.

Seems harsh but perhaps best case scenario for a man on Mars is a qualified candidate with only 2-3 years to live
First to land on Mars and first to die on Mars with no return trip needed.

He’d fit in well on this board...or is already here in the form the prepared anus???

Humans while costly don't have extreme lag time.
That’s a trade off but one NASA has successfully dealt with many time. The trade off of lag time vs all of the necessary equipment needed for life support isn’t justified. The reality is unmanned gets way more science done than manned at a far cheaper price. If the goal is truly to explore it just makes much more sense to focus on blasting probes around the solar system instead of using all your funding plus a hell of a lot more to put boots on Martian soil where they’ll end up doing their exploration using robotics anyways.

Oh I agree with almost all of that.
But I also want people to explore space as well.
And damn this world needs hero's and something big to get behind.
As you say it's costly with humans in space especially one shot trips. We need a permanent presence somewhere somehow and build on that. Whether low orbit the moon or mars.
I can dream!

Celebrate the brilliant minds that engineer those probes. We have hero’s already.

You are extremely short sighted. You care about exploration but I care about colonization. Our planet won't be here forever and our species has developed enough that we have the opportunity to launch an endeavor that can send men to other worlds to live and work. NASA doesn't exist without manned space flight. That's the whole reason it was founded. The public doesn't care about space probes and engineers. And so long as we continue to operate on the opposite assumption, the less money NASA is going to receive. And the less money NASA receives, the slower innovation develops and takes place.
You can have a manned space program while also launching probes into deep space to see if there are other worlds we can traverse and colonize.

Valles Marineris is a canyon on Mars that dwarfs the Grand Canyon many times over. The history of Mars is all exposed no digging required.
I want a mechanical wall climbin probe two for redundancy.
Musk has not returned my calls.
Yet.

Then figure out a better way out of Earth's gravity well. It makes no sense to worry about colonization and human habitation when currently it is extrodinarily expensive to get each kg into space. That is step one and I’m all for trying to figure it out.

Sometimes you have to invest in order to bring balance to the world. I can tell you one thing, we aren't going to figure out that problem until we start throwing more money at manned space flight.

Yea were still basically using WWII V-2 rockets.
Anti gravity is the holy grail for us getting off this rock in a big way. Barring some as of yet unforseen invention of one hell of a lightweight and powerful engine design.

I’m for investment. Invest in finding a cheaper way into space and voila you’ve opened it up. Until then you’re unnecesarily burning up a shite ton of money. Figure out step 1 before you worry about step 3 or 4.

hahaha...not quite. The dude may be a huckster but he's got courage and imagination...something NASA lost after Columbia.
Book it...NASA won't get humans back to space before Musk and Bezos do.
