Fortunately you are insignificant because he would be crushed to hear you say that.

Of course Russia wants to keep the war going. They’re evil but they’re not stupid. They know all they have to do is keep Ukraine fighting as they are today and eventually, they’ll reach the point of military collapse due to manpower shortages. Ukraine is already scrapping the bottom of the barrel from a manpower standpoint. All Russia has to do is keep slowly bleeding them and they will collapse and Ukraine will be erased from the map. It’s a simple mathematical calculation to figure out when that will likely happen. So, obviously Russia wants the war to continue.
The only ones who want the war to end are those who (1) know Ukraine lacks the military capability to ever win the war -and no amount of western aid will change that fact and (2) rather not see an independent Ukraine relegated to the dustbin of history.

I share his contempt.
I don't like either one of them frankly, and could give a shite if they slaughter each other except for the fact our corrupt politicians are stealing my money to enrich themselves AND cause the death of 100's of thousands.
The math is simple. There's only 3 paths:
- Ukraine fights on, no matter how much money is given, runs out of men and loses their entire country.
- Ukraine cuts a deal that is acceptable to Putin and lives to fight another day.
- Ukraine doesn't run out of men because this, at a minimum, becomes a general European war when they put boots on the ground and we get drug into it because of NATO (among other treaties) and thus WWIII is born.
Only one of those outcomes are truly acceptable to the people of the USA (the second one). So if that is NOT the path, we should withdraw from NATO to prevent the general european war from becoming WWIII.
Pretty simple IMHO.

This sounds nice, but also unrealistic. What does it actually look like at this stage?
It seems like the bully has them in a headlock and landing a punch isn't really an option any more

Yes. They are the invaders. The war either exists or it ends upon their decision. They also completely ignored the scale back agreement that Trump and his team negotiated with Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has yet to breach the terms of the deal (which was to stop targeting infrastructure), while Russia ignores it daily.
You are a moron begging for World War 3. Thank God we defeated you in the 2024 elections.

Refresh my memory, were we $36 trillion in debt back then?
I didn’t think so.

1. Strike a deal for a rump Ukraine with very good incentivized security guarantees (vs. promises) based on economics.
2. Use the time and rump state with it's new non-Rus economic ties to fund asymmetric war in the occupied areas.
3. Russia can't re-invade with the security guarantees.
4. Your manpower issue is negated by asymmetric warfare.
5. you will gain grassroots support in the occupied areas as Ukraine outpaces the occupied area economically.
6. That will enhance your asymmetric warfare results AND have more of an internal disruptive force on Putin's grip on power internally as he ages much more than the effect on the populous than general warfare (the Afghanistan effect).

For once in his life, DJT channels Nixon's ghost, and finally scares the crap out of Putin instead of giving in to him like a child paying the bully his lunch money.
Step #1 Tell Ukraine they have our full support (weapons systems, advisors, intel, etc - EXCEPT our boots on their ground). The USA model in Afghanistan when Russia quit that war.
Step #2 Tell Russia (Putin directly so no passing the buck) they have 24 hours to withdraw or US goes 100% Ukraine and 0% Russia.
Step #3 Tell the world that if there is to be peace, Russia must cease the war they started now and return to original borders established before the start of the conflict.
Step #4 Crack down on all illegal Russian oil across the world. Currently Russian oil is taboo, but it is washed though middlemen so the oil embargo currently has no teeth.
This is a base plan and nuances can be tweaked as our intel suggests but the broad issue is take away Russian oil, you take away Russia's ability to pay for a war. If you allow Russia no new land formerly belonging to Ukraine you take away their food (see also Stalin in the Ukraine in the 1930's).
With no money and no food, how long do you think you can keep a modern army in the field?
quote:
It seems like the bully has them in a headlock
#1 Ukraine is still fighting
#2 Ukraine is in the headlock because the ref (USA) is distracted by the heel. (Wrasslin is a great example).

If it helps, here is a short history of US debt
WW II = HUGE from WW II but quickly a small part of GNP
WW II to 1970's Oil shocks = fairly small and almost flat
1980 = Ronnie elected and record debt pushed forward to next POTUS
Lather
Rinse
Repeat
(every POTUS since, less last year of Clinton's 2nd term)
DJT 1st term = largest debt increase in 4 year POTUS term in US history
Sleepy Joe = 2nd largest debt increase in 4 year POTUS term in US history

I didn’t think so.
You need to expand your thinking then
#1 Blame EVERY POTUS from Ronnie to DJT, no matter the party D or R
#2 Blame EVERY congress (save Clintons's 2nd term where both parties worked with each other instead of blaming each other) for pushing it forward to the next Congress
That is how you solve the debt problem by dealing with it now and not passing it to the next POTUS + Congress.

You're the exact person he's talking about. You're ok with thousands of young Russian and Ukrainian men and women dying so you can "kick Putin in the nuts." Putin isn't the one being hurt. It's the ones dying and their family members. All so you can virtue signal about how you hate a country that hasn't existed in 30 years.
What's your solution? Keep supplying Ukraine until one side finally gives out? Who do you think will last longer? You're willing to let Ukraine be completely devastated to give Russia a black eye. How noble.

It worked in Afghanistan, a much smaller and less populated country than Ukraine.

No, I am saying Putin (like Stalin and Hitler) will not stop until you stop them somewhere. My point is the sooner you stop them, the sooner you end the WW III threat and you save more lives much sooner. This isa not a tit for tat, this is putting down a rabid dog that can not be saved.

No, this is war, so I seek counsel in the wisdom of Sun Tzu
One need not destroy one's enemy. One need only destroy his willingness to engage.
The Afghan / Russia war showed the correct path to victory
If it helps, study Operation Cyclone
When the REPUBLICAN POTUS laid down the law with Russia
"We must not break faith with those who are risking their lives—on every continent from Afghanistan to Nicaragua—to defy Soviet-supported aggression and secure rights which have been ours from birth." The doctrine was a centerpiece of U.S. foreign policy from the early 1980s until the end of the Cold War in 1991.
This is the REAL MAGA, not this pseudo MAGA crap of today
