every 9 year old that played RISK knows the importance of Greenland

funny how i learned about Greenland in 5th grade and then outside of RISK, it pretty much didn't exist for the next 50 years to me outside of the occasional "why is greenland ice and iceland green?" jokes until Trump put it back on the radar.
an abandoned, tundra covered iceberg absolutely NOBODY in the world gave a shite about..ESPECIALLY Denmark until Trump opened his mouth and all of a sudden because he could see the strategic value in it, everyone's panties are in a wad.
Trump is a genius; when he brought up acquiring Greenland in 2018 or whatever, EVERYONE LAUGHED THEIR ASSES OFF. they're not laughing now and the fact Greenlanders WANT someone to care about them and would appreciate people knowing they exist, we can't have that.
NOOOOOO, that might be a good thing for the US! WE CAN'T ACQUIRE THAT ISLAND!! OMB!
none of those poor eskimoes ekeing out an existence on that godforsaken rock right now is against the US taking over and adding a McDonalds and a Wafflehouse. i guarantee you they are tired of eating whale blubber.

There is no doubt that Greenland is a strategic asset that needs to be protected, but why do we have to annex it? Why can't we just sign a 99-year long treaty with Denmark allowing the us to establish bases on it and station any and all assets that we thing are necessary to protect it?

We already have a treaty with Denmark allowing us to do this.

we need 100% control with no bullshite interference from Denmark, NATO or god forbid, the UN to do whatever we need to do over there.
if we don't 'own' it by the time all the Boasbergs are done throwing up red tape, if China or Russia was building a base, they'd be done and launching missiles at us.
