The Trump admin chose to enact tariffs via a statute (the IEEPA) that did not authorize tariffs.
It's almost like this was the plan. But what the hell do I know

My point was that the refunds will never make it to end users. It will be a windfall for importers and wholesalers.
It's a MAJOR windfall (4-5X) if you purchased the rights to tariff refunds from importers.

Are these companies going to issue reciprocal refunds to their customers for the increased costs they passed on?
If they already passed on the tariffs, they have no claim because they have no damage.

Its weird to me that Im being down voted for reporting a relevant court opinion. It doesn't hurt my feelings or anything, I just thought this board was interested in tariff news.

Look into how Howard Lutnick's boys at Canter Fitzgerald will benefit form these tariff refunds.

Seems like it was a genius move now that Kavbaw gave them the roadmap moving forward
He didn't.
Those statutes already existed and the admin had already started pivoting to them while the case was ongoing (prior to the final ruling) because they knew they were going to lose.
Me and several other posters also said they should have used the statutes Kavabaw cited, and there are threads on here where Bessent referenced them also prior to the ruling.

Why do y'all always do this weird cope-pivot to try to turn absolute frickups into some version of x-D backgammon?

That is a matter between them and their customers

Waiting for the Morris Barts of class action lawsuits to start the tv commercials for people overcharged by corporate America since corporate will gets rebated for tariffs

Courts making a decision on economic policy is similar to having chimpanzees performing brain surgery, it is messy and ends with a dead patient……

So they knew and wanted the SC to makenthr ruling. Stable genius
Maybe you should apply for a job since you also knew. Seems like you have a lot of free time you could be a great asset for the admin

I don't think you understand his claim.

How is taking a huge L and appearing illiterate a "stable genius" move?
Nothing about that ruling was good for the admin.

Unless you're Lutnick.

Oh I get he's doing the Lutnick conspiracy theory/corruption angle, but the underlying mechanics of the scheme are spinning frickups into some plan when it was just a huge error.

It's not 3D backgammon.
Howard Lunick's boys at Canter Fitzgerald purchased the right to tariff refund contracts at 20-30cents on the dollar from importers. It's an easy decision for importers because the tariff paid was sunk cost and they had a very different risk ranking of the transaction than Canter Fitzgerald.

You are to much of a drama queen
Nothing was "bad" about the ruling

The what? What's the "conspiracy theory" here?

This was all done months after the admin fricked up.
Lutnick was just smart enough to realize the error of their frickup after the fact. It doesn't show he planned this and it ignores the other actors involved (specifically Bessent).
