What happens if they blow all their cash on dumb shite (another topic) and don't have money to feed their children?
What they do now is buy food with SNAP and trade it away for cash or other items so the people that would do this are already doing so.

Walmart has made their fortune off food stamps. It's corporate welfare
Another justification is the "corporate welfare" that SNAP and similar programs provide for agriculture.

There is some woman who must shop at every walmart in the country b/c she is always seen buying steaks and lobsters and then walking to her Cadilac Escalade.
At least that's what this board says they see. Or it is her sister? But they have steaks lobster and a cool ride.
so this MUST be real.

Nope. All people on food stamps make great nutritional choices, never waste a penny, and don't have any luxury items

I was involved in food distribution in EBR Parrish before there were Food Stamps, actually handing out the food at Ryan Airport.
I believe we should go back to that. I think it would be cost effective, insure the proper foods were available to those in need, particularly the children.
Do you know why we got away from that? Privitization of government services. It doesn't always work out like we think it will, does it?
I'd be willing to go halfway. Look at WIC. You get a WIC voucher and you get so many gallons of milk, etc. I would do the same for SNAP. Every month you get vouchers for certain types of foods.

From a pure economic standpoint, a basic income model makes the most sense. But people many times do not act in their best economic interest, which is why this would be an issue.

It is not stamps any longer, it is the reloading of cash on SNAP debit cards. Not like the old days where grandma would go to the local commissary and use government issued stamps for cheese, flower, sugar and peanut butter.
If those that are on assistance were made to work for them, the a majority would quit applying for the vouchers.

To get $800 a month you'd need to have like a family of 6.
Pretty sure these ppl don't get much, which is a good thing
Well a family of 3 can get a maximum of $511 a month in SNAP benefits but if they are also receiving TANF then that's an additional maximum of $265 a month in actual cash, so that's just under $800 a month.

I shop at Walmart at least 3 times a week over the last 20 years. I have NEVER seen a customer use food stamps.
But then, I only shop there at 4 a.m. while I'm waiting for Starbucks to open so maybe the food stamp customers are still asleep.

I don't know about the liberals where you are, but these liberals in Portland/Seattle would like to ban EBT cards from being used in Walmart and force these people to buy only organic stuff from Whole Foods or the like...

Food stamp customers aren't the earliest risers.

Years ago I adopted this philosophy.
When someone asks me for money, I tell them I will buy them food but will not give them cash. Most refuse the offer of food.

Food stamps consist of a sack of beans delivered to your door every Monday. Nobody should be living a good lifestyle if they are on welfare. You have to give them a reason to want to get off and not be a lazy POS

It has to do with control

That's exactly what is wrong with the system we have now. For every dollar more earned, people in poverty only receive 50 cents because of what they lose in benefits. We need to design the system to incentivize people to get better paying jobs and get off the government assistance.

IMO, food stamps should only be redeemed at a newly created nationwide chain of government controlled grocery stores that are supplied only with the products that are approved to be purchased in the program. This would eliminate fraud, lead to healthier use of the money, stop the purchase of items that are not on the approved list and kill the black market value of the food stamps.

So you want to increase government spending for welfare while shutting down small businesses? Fraud should come down assuming the system is correct. I doubt that is the case now since the current debit card system should also be fraud proof - in theory. Lastly, there will still be a black market for the food, even if it isn't as good as what is currently available.
