eh, that's pretty weak and there's a huge language barrier for that guy to understand the nuance of afghan communication.

He LEFT the base and his post. For frick's sake. It is not like he ended up in that village after escaping from a downed helicopter transport, etc.

he fricking decided to LEAVE the post. He skipped his guard duty, put other's lives in danger, DESERTED camp and went walking into that "language barrier".

You can give him all the benefit of the doubt you choose. I don't have any benefit for him.

I believe he deserted. That's different from saying he deserted and sought out the Taliban.

True, but how long can we use this logic for every accusation that comes out? Eventually, you have to accept what happened and not be able to write it off as a coincidence, a misunderstanding, etc. It certainly is feeling that way to me.

The deflection almost sounds like a naive wife making up reasons why all the evidence doesn't add up to her husband cheating on her. Every new girl is a "friend," "coworker," some woman he was trying to "help out."

You're picking and choosing when you believe the Taliban.

I'm not saying I believe the Taliban, I'm just saying their claim makes sense given all we know.

1) Bergdahl deserted

2) Soldiers from his platoon claim to have heard radio transmissions of Afghans claiming an English-speaker was looking for the Taliban

3) Attacks by Taliban forces became more aggressive and accurate in that area in the days and weeks after Bergdahl's capture.

4) The Taliban were claiming Bergdahl had converted to Islam as far back as 2010.

This guy aided the enemy with Intel, and killed American soldiers with his own trigger finger.

Obama knows this, and has as severe a punishment set up for this dude than any of us can imagine.

If the Taliban have video of the prisoner exchange, it's possible they have video of other things... Like him firing a weapon...

Take a moment and imagine if such a video came out. Huge propaganda piece on their behalf. How many people on capital hill are praying something like that never comes out?

Nah, the left in America has zero morals or standards. They don't give a shite. Most of them hate the US anyway. Yes, I honestly believe that. There is no "we" anymore.

His platoon mates say it, the locals in the area say it, the captors say it.

Why can't yall just be honest and say that you're not waiting for evidence, but you're waiting for evidence that agrees with what you want to be true.

Honestly, who/what could come out that would make you say "OK, this guy is bad?"

Good luck what you wish for

I agree that it appears that Bergdaul went looking for Taliban and wasn't captured. But this:

quote:

4) The Taliban were claiming Bergdahl had converted to Islam as far back as 2010.

Idk. Maybe he did this to gain trust from his captors?

Anyone remember the names of the troops who died looking for him?
They are still dead while that bastard is getting sympathy by the Obama crowd.

I agree in principle - but he didn't desert in Idaho, while home on leave. He didn't desert before deploying to the theater. He deserted IN Afghanistan.

Follow the logic out - you choose to walk off the base in Afghanistan - essentially "quitting" the Army. So, now your choices are to live among the Afghans, try to get into Pakistan or join the Taliban.

I agree it isn't cut and dried that he intended to join the Taliban - and he may have been mentally ill, frankly - after seeing his father, could just be from a crazy family. However, I'm having a tough time feeling sympathy for the kid based on the facts we have. His actions, regardless of his intentions, cost lives.

1. He did it on purpose, so he's culpable.

2. He did it negligently, so he's still responsible.

3. He's deranged and we should get him treatment and try to sympathize.

I'm having a tough time coming up with a fourth alternative...

We are very close to hitting that tipping point where the story is morphed into a Republican attack and an attempted smear by Obama haters. Once that pivot is successful, it is game over.

I dunno this one has Obama haters and supporters like wtf.

This duck-and-cover response is the result of the outrageous demonization of Sergeant Bergdahl in the absence of actual facts. Republican operatives have arranged for soldiers in his unit to tell reporters that he was a deserter who cost the lives of several soldiers searching for him. In fact, a review of casualty reports by Charlie Savage and Andrew Lehren of The Times showed there is no clear link between any military deaths and the search.

And a classified military report shows that Sergeant Bergdahl had walked away from assigned areas at least twice before and had returned, according to a report in The Times on Thursday. It describes him as a free-spirited young man who asked many questions but gave no indication of being a deserter, let alone the turncoat that Mr. Obama’s opponents are now trying to create.

so much lulz how can anyone believe this nonsense
