i prefer the term traitor. deserter sounds too nice to me....like he just went AWOL or some shite. this isn't some 18 year old kid that decided to leave his base so he could go party in Tijauna.
At the very, very least (and thats if everyone is lieing) he's a deserter. At worst he's a traitor who took up arms against his former brethren. i think its closer to the latter. and if so...he should be tried for treason and put to death.

I also find it interesting the OP failed to quote how he actually escaped captors for a time in 2010 and how they built a metal cage for him...

Nor am I (or most). However, the means by which he ended up in their "hands" appears to be well established (deserted/AWOL) with plenty of anecdotal information that life in that area got a lot more difficult for the military after he was "captured."
