I have an idea for these conservative student groups to discourage the leftists from taking and tearing up of their signs.
Have the signs printed and offered for sale by the student group to any members who are willing to hold them in protest. Document that the sign holder actually paid for the sign, say $500 or so. If the sign is returned undamaged, refund the money.Print on the signs, "I paid $500 for this sign, please don't touch it without my permission."
If the sign is torn up by an opposition protester, have them criminally charged with a demand for restitution.
A few convictions later, and that shite would stop.

At one of these rallies someone needs to have like 100 identical signs and when the crazy leftist rips one out of their hands to tear up they just grab another. Kind of like the old Bugs Bunny cartoon. Watch heads explode as they look up and the person is holding an identical sign to the one they were tearing up. They would exhaust themselves before they ran out of signs...
