Cool, I don't think it's possible to properly pay the debt to society when you have murdered someone unless you can figure out a way to bring the victim back

Or pay restitution to the family.....and yes many of them have a price for forgiveness.

That is a problem with the justice system, then. It’s not a problem with individual liberty.

Why is it not both? Losing individual liberties is part of the punishment doled out by the justice system

I mean, you do think voting is so important, right? Then why haven't you so-called voters done anything against laws that go against felons voting.
Why didn't the felons take that into account before committing the felony? Don't project responsibility for their stupid decisions on to me, brother.

Temporarily losing individual liberties is part of the punishment.

Say you were arrested for inciting violence against someone or arrested for "hate speech" and you get a short stint in prison and then come out and the government says you are no longer allowed to use your 1st amendment rights. You can't speak to three or more people at once (a crowd); you can't use internet message boards; and you can't use social media to make public statements any longer. Do you think that's not an infringement on a person's liberties? I think it is. We're essentially doing the same thing with felons for using firearms.

Sure, that's an infringement on individual liberties, but I have specifically been talking murder. I have no problem whatsoever infringing on the individual liberties of a convicted murderer

Because if you commit a fricking felony you don't deserve the right to vote anymore.

In California, once you're off probation/parole, you do get your voting rights back.

Why murder and not rape at gun point? Why not armed robbery or attempted murder ( but not successful murder)? What’s your standard and why should that standard remove the rights of an otherwise free person? Why not just support capital punishment or life in prison for all murderers?

Sure, no problem with a rapist never owning a gun upon release from prison

Again, I wouldn't care if these people couldn't own a gun upon release. I'm not sure what your parenthetical means.

I don't care if violent people have their rights to own a gun stripped away upon release. I'd have to think some on what the exact standard would be

quote:

Why not just support capital punishment or life in prison for all murderers?

That would never happen, so in the alternative if you want to own a gun, don't commit violent felonies
