Kuwait is only 50 miles from Iran and the Kuwait military folks are probably a bit juiced and reactive. Reminds me of the two USS navel vessels that screwed up not far from there in the 1980's. The first the Stark , when being attacked with incoming missile delayed shooting it down for fear of hitting a commercial airplane and got their arse busted. The second 10 months later,, the Vincennes mistook a large commercial passenger plan for a missile and shot it down, short circuiting the trip to Mecca for 300 pilgrims.

things happen fast. and to the dude that criticized the Kuwait school system, I hired a bunch of those young folks and they were much better educated than those in California, New York and Maryland

Yeah, they also blew up a school and blamed us.

I’m not upset. Couldn’t care less what you think just not particularly a fan of my bros and their ability being questioned.

Clearly I’m not the only one who disliked your post.

Good day.

Fog of war. If coming back to land they are not in a great position to defend. Might have used up flares and chaff in the mission, who knows.

You might be surprised to learn we lose jets during peacetime too. Like then they will do a full investigation. Military investigations are best in the world. They look at everything. Even how much sleep pilots had in prior day. Every maintenance log is confiscated immediately.

And we’ll learn lessons to apply going forward. The lessons we learn over decades year by year is what makes us so great. No other country has such a professional honest system.

Well the air defense guys have been pretty fricking busy the past 48 hours. They’re probably exhausted and their nerves are frayed. Fog of war and all that. This shite happens in combat.

I asked questions. You could have told me what to think and I would have engaged it. Instead, well...

I’m betting the guys manning that defense system have less than an 8th grade education.

Likely not. Do you have any idea how wealthy that country is? They’re likely more educated than most of our enlisted guys running patriot batteries.

We shot down our own fighters with Patriots during the Iraq invasion. It does happen unfortunately.

Im going with they crossed over into Kuwait and assumed their IFF was good enough, so they felt they were relaxed and out of danger.

I'm not well-versed in procedures to really speculate intelligently about the specifics, but my best (*least wild, I suppose, would be better) guess is that one of them might have had a fuel/mechanical/damage issue, so they stayed together, ended up outside specified inbound vectors and altitudes - the emergency didn't get passed through so whoever on the ground in Kuwait saw them, got clearance and splashed them based on the deviation/confusion.

Just fortunate the crews all survived without major injuries (based on reporting).

I am also wondering how close in time the take downs were, and in that context, what we communicated to the Kuwaitis in between them if there was time. 3 within a day seems like something went wrong that we don't yet know. Possibly the error came in communicating plans to the Kuwaitis and/or not being synced systematically with them.

How did 3 of our jets fail to evade being shot down

The three planes shot down were F-15's, not stealth planes, and by the looks of the pilots, they were Saudis. These planes were shot down by a very sophisticated US defense system we sold to Kuwait. Not sure who didn't do their job properly, but something went wrong.

I saw a video earlier of a Kuwaiti citizen walking up to a pilot to assist them and asking if they were injured.

It was a female pilot, so definitely not a Saudi.

It sounds like someone on the US side screwed up. I don’t believe the pilots would be to be blame.

You realize it is a kingdom, with the wealth concentrated within the family.
The population is below average IQ. The wealth came from oil found on lands occupied by nomadic Arabs. They aren’t trying to educate the populace, they want to keep them subjugated.
