Oh, wait. We didn't have to put boots on the ground there, either. Posters like you were wrong about that, too.

Technically we did put boots on the ground in Venezuela. But I never claimed that we would.

Overtly I mean.

Over/under at 3.50 weeks

Where are the troops movements?

It takes awhile to send multiple divisions overseas, won't happen in 3.5 weeks, so please point out the troop movements, and more importantly the moving of heavy armor, which has to be transported by sea

Once the war is over, we'll definitely have boots on the ground to assist with cleanup, so I guess you'll be technically "correct."

Oh I don’t think it will be multiple divisions and probably no to little armor. Mostly SOF dudes backed up by some paratroopers and Marines if I had to guess.

Yeah, that was really some war.

Be honest.

Not really. Kind short as wars go.

Probably a bit more robust than that with looser rules of engagement but sure, why not

I was making the point that even minimalist "boots on the ground" plans can go catastrophically wrong.

It can. War is a risky business

I agree that you can’t just bomb them into surrender, but we might be able to bomb and negotiate them into compliance. Look what we dd in Venezuela (a much smaller task to be sure); their government and military didn’t really surrender, but they seem compliant now. As we keep killing their leadership, no one is going to want that job, or to be on the “committee of experts”. The country’s government will likely devolve into warlordism. And we are probably in touch with these warlords. We will be making deals with them and apparently sending in a regular army of Kurds from the North. On top of all of this pressure their population is militantly against the old regime. I like our odds.

You’re massively missing the geopolitical fact that China will not let this happen and would be willing to put boots on the ground to ensure their interests align. It’s either going to be the US or China that puts the capital and military support to rebuild the kingdom.

It’s happening, and China is sitting quietly on the sideline because they cannot match America’s armed forces. Most of China’s military is a sham.

I can see that, for sure.
