It’s quite ironic. A lot of people and “leftists” like to hate on the western world, but then everyone wants to come to America.

Yes the people were Americanized by then. Iran was an ally during the cold war. Then the overthrow of the shah in '79 changed all that.

I know quite a few Iranian Americans. Used to live next door to some a few years ago and one of them was a roommate in college. They weren't first generation though.
