I don't wanna trade Puerto Rico for Greenland. I can't go sit on the beach in Greenland and enjoy the summer!

No, the plurality party in the recent election supports gradual (e.g. over decades) independence from Denmark. there has been no indication whatsoever that they favor annexation by the United States.

Greenland is so much more valuable in terms of World War III and with regards to Armageddon.

You can sit by the beach in based Cuba or even Hawaii

Good. We can give them both independence and a Buc-ee’s.

Does Greenland have REEs?

Yes, Greenland has significant deposits of rare earth elements (REEs), making it one of the more notable untapped sources globally. REEs are a group of 17 elements critical for high-tech industries—think magnets in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and smartphones, as well as military hardware.

The standout site is Kvanefjeld (also called Kuannersuit) in southern Greenland, near Narsaq. It’s considered one of the world’s largest undeveloped REE deposits, with an estimated 270,000 tons of rare earth oxides, alongside uranium and zinc. Another key area is Kringlerne, part of the same region, which also holds substantial REE reserves. These deposits are rich in elements like neodymium and dysprosium, which are especially prized for their magnetic properties.

There’s also Motzfeldt Sø in the south, with potential for REEs like cerium and lanthanum, though it’s less developed. Exploration elsewhere, like the Sarfartoq carbonatite complex, has shown promise for additional REE finds.

What’s the big deal? It is in the interests of both Greenland and USA
It is not the first time USA acquires new land

It is just the current anti
Trump mSM attacking anything Trump is for

You mean this guy? Jens-Frederik Nielsen who will likely be the next PM of Greenland?

Greenland’s election winners push back against Trump’s wish to take control of the island

“We don’t want to be Americans. No, we don’t want to be Danes. We want to be Greenlanders, and we want our own independence in the future,” Nielsen, 33, told Britain’s Sky News. “And we want to build our own country by ourselves.”

I'm not sure there is much to read between the lines there.

beauxduke ain't looked over the particulars, eh?

Greenland has the looks of a deal which could make the Louisiana Purchase and Alaska appear stupid expensive by comparison. Put differently, we are set to eat Denmark's lunch in a Nuuk restaurant in a few months.

That is flatly untrue, and stupid. If Greenland votes for independence, annexation is basically an afterthought. The money per capita guarantees it. Trump targeting Greenland was pure Art of Deal genius!

Really? what does the leader of that party have to say?

The fact that you think it is a really a good idea has absolutely no bearing upon what the people of Greenland want.

No

You cannot listen to the servants of propaganda that now populate this board (FLtech, seldom seen, John Barron, dgnx)

They live in a different reality

Exactly what one would expect him to say UNTIL independence.

Swing and a miss. I said it had the hallmarks of the best real estate deal in the history of the planet. It does. That is not a matter of whether I think it's a good idea. It is a simple matter of fact.

Greenland doesn’t need to officially become a part of the US for whatever we want Greenland for.

I think we want Greenland to have the autonomy to allow the US to do things in Greenland without Denmark/ The EU getting in the way.

The entire population of Greenland is 56,865. There are 22,071 households in total. Median HH income is $40K.

$56.8B would put $1,000,000.00 in the hands of every individual Greenlander, or $2,600,000.00 per household.

$56.8B is a pittance in US terms.
