The only other choices I can identify are to be o.k. with not being protected at all or to allow citizens to protect themselves.
Those are the only two choices left, and we know from recent court cases that the latter is not an option.
So I asked this earlier with no reply from you. What is your solution? Just let people kill each other?

I'd wager you were also against Giuliani's stop and frisk policy in New York which lowered the crime rate.

Progressives are going to defend high crime until they are blue in the face. Chaos and division are the core of their philosophy. This poster knows it, thus the reason why they want more of it.

Remember, Trump invoked Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act. It's perfectly Constitutional.
If he deploys the NG to other places he'll invoke the Insurrection Act. Also perfectly Constitutional.
And here's where the left will not be able to have it both ways. Either we have a gun crime epidemic or we don't. Either we have a situation in America in which gay and trans people are afraid for their lives or we don't. Either we have rampant violence against women or we don't. Either white supremacy is the greatest threat to America we face (as Joetato claimed), or it's not.
If we do, invoking the Insurrection Act is Constitutional and Trump is literally protecting civil rights and saving the country as well as people's safety. If we don't, then shut up about guns. And rape. And assault. And hate crimes. And white supremacy.
So you tell me. Do we have too much crime or not?

BTW, nobody who voted for Trump thought they were voting for a small government conservative.
Say what you want about Trump, but he's never hidden that he is a populist. He wallows in his populism and wears it proudly like a hog wears mud, in fact.
I don't care for populism, but the left offers no viable alternative. I don't especially care for the occupation we're discussing—I wish the left would not act insane and would do their jobs—but they have very clearly signaled that they want to put the law abiding citizens in prison and allow the criminals to roam free.
I'll ask again (not that I think you'll answer), what is your solution?
What do you propose we do?

I looked at your link and there's nothing in there that prohibits what Trump is doing.
As for the rest, I'll answer some of your questions when you answer some of mine.

So we can drop the “I’m a small government conservative” bullshite here? It’s abundantly clear there are very few posters who actually want a limited federal government. They just want the other team punished so they can feel like they’re better than their fellow Americans.
