The damage Desantis received is what any reasonable person would have expected from going to war. The damage he continues to receive is because he continues the campaign.
There are consequences to decisions.

That’s a tough reality to take if you’re a Trumpfag. But it is the reality.
All of Trump’s poll gains are directly tied to his indictments.
Attacking Ron certainly helped hurt Ron among the Trump loyalists
Look at OP for example. He was a big Ron guy until Trump told him not to be.

Desantis would have been so much better off waiting in the wings. If there was a real conviction he could have come in as the savior. He was never going to win a direct contest against Trump. Now he is so tarnished he may never get another chance at running.

I agree. Roe & Axiom run bland, generic McDonalds Conservative campaigns that all look the same. It works in some safe races where they can easily outspend and outmaneuver opponents on the right, but useless in competitive races against candidates with resources. Jeff Roe also struck out on Ted Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign.

Almost everyone in the operation and in the promotion thereof, are retreads from the failed Ted Cruz campaign of 2016. I think what's missed is that not only did they think they could convince the MAGA wing to move to Desantis as never trumpers, but they thought they could do it by attacking Trump and trying to convince his supporters that Trump was swamp and that he was the problem while in office.
The only people who believed that ridiculous lie are the NeverTrumpers themselves. You know this because as time went on, and Desantis shed the support he had, it's the only the NeverTrumper group that is left.
And, you can actually see it clearly on this site, or Twitter, etc. There's almost nobody left that is supportive of Trump but just prefers Desantis. Pretty much everyone in the Desantis camp right now hates Trump.
