And just to be clear I don’t think anybody’s condoning slavery here but the idea that we had a civil war over a morality issue that the North was practicing as well is just beyond naive. We all agree it was a horrible practice and needed to end but we can’t ignore the realities of what happened in pursuit of moral high ground. If you’re a pragmatist it’s a silly notion.

Over 50% actually but the percentage that was given doesn’t take plantation numbers, or slave/slave owner ethnicity, into account.

Anyone have a running count on how many threads TD has on the “lost cause”

I've made my point on this, and I agree that it wasn't all for moral reasons, but it shouldn't be used as a vindication for what the south was fighting for, hence they shouldn't have been glorified with monuments.

This is how we ended up with military bases and ships named after traitors.
Ummmmm ... a lot of the Confederate generals also served in the US Army. They were not considered traitors by whom they fought with in war. So, why should we consider them traitors now? Becaust it fits the narrative? No thanks.

So your point is you want monuments and statues destroyed because you don’t understand why they exist. Maybe do some digging into the subject and find out the real reason these things are part of our culture.

Or go see if there are any statues of Hitler or any other nazi in Germany.
Take a look at when a large majority of these statues and monuments went up. Beginning of the 20th century and right around the civil rights movement.

The guy makes a statement that the South actually is responsible for the popular history of the Civil War yet uses questionable accounts and theories from the North as the definitive history. Lol you can’t make this shite up.

Aside from moving the goalpost out of the stadium, Hitler was a fascist dictator who committed genocide and conquered the vast majority of Western Europe with plans to take over the known world. Comparing him to soldiers and generals involved in a Civil conflict with oppressive government practices who were honored by their opponents is so far from the same thing it’s hard to believe you’d suggest it. At first you seemed to have some objectivity to your positions but as it’s gone on you’ve shown you’re more of an ideologue committed to propaganda and false talking points.

Growing up in New Orleans, I was always told that Gen. Lee in Lee Circle faced north (only thing directionally correct in the city), and the YMCA was there, strategically placed because the Yankes Might Come Again.
I didn't think it had anything to do with race or white supremacy.

This is the ignorance that occurs when history is erased then retold by radical anti-American educators. My youngest son is 11 and there is no history taught where he goes to school. He had no idea what the American revolution was or who the founding fathers were until I realized it and had to teach him myself. Thankfully my minor was history and I was lucky enough to be educated before history started to be erased.

It's not feasible for everyone, but we homeschool.
My minor is in history as well. Both of my parents bachelor's degrees were in history.
Not only is history not taught in school - plenty of children have no appreciation for it because of the way it is presented. One of the many reasons why we homeschool.

By your logic shouldn’t the Democrat party be dissolved? They’re the party of slavery, the Jim Crow South, The KKK and Segregation among other sins. I don’t see Robert Byrd and Will Quigg on any lists, Byrd has at least a couple statues. Where’s your outrage for these very recent openly racist politicians?

I think it’s a wise choice if you can still provide social interaction. We’re lucky as a family, our kids go to a small school with my sister and first cousin teaching there and an AD I played ball with in HS. I couldn’t imagine sending my kids anywhere else.

You’re right but you won’t win this argument. People will never look at the context of the war anymore.
The 6% figure is meaningless. The end of slavery did not stop the oppression of blacks.
The war was about slavery and it affected the entire south. The secession document of South Carolina clearly stated this. The economy of the south was built on slavery.

I am thinking both stout and sugar's % of population numbers came from spurious sources. Truth is somewhere in the middle.
