The limo liberals don't get to see the product of their policies up close. Such a shame.

I work downtown and it is a fricking hell hole.
Thoughts & prayers.
Downtown has gone from bad in the early 2000's to worse. I was up there a few weeks ago, and what once was a bustling downtown at lunch is now a ghost town.
You cannot stop at any gas station near downtown without being accosted by pushy vagrants-very little humbleness to them. When I lived there it just got to the point where I would yell at them if they even started my way.

I remember back in 1997 my dad and I went and stayed in a hotel in Jackson.
When friends and family have to pass through Jackson, I don't let them stay in Jackson. The Hyatt Place in Ridgeland is the furthest south I recommend them going. That's sad because the Hilton on County Line is (or once was) a beautiful hotel. The parking lot and County Line Road make it a no-go.

I haven't read this whole thread so maybe it's been addressed...but didn't Jackson expand their tax base to the whole county to get property taxes from people who fled to the neighboring towns?

There are 49 other states and thousands of other regions. Move. ETA: awful story tho - makes my blood boil. Jackson, Memphis, and Baton Rouge are all hellholes. This post was edited on 3/10 at 12:11 pm
I may move yet, but I don't want to foresake my homeland and my heritage because of a bunch of criminals and inept leaders. This is where my roots are. The land of my father and his father and his. Getting pushed out to become a shiftless cosmopolitan or losing my culture in exchange for pop-culture is not what I want. However, all I can do REEEE about it and hope somehow things change.

Try the waffle House off of exit 30A in lake Charles. It was so bad last week even the black customers were walking out. The waitresses were screaming obscenities at them as they walked out the door. Very uncomfortable. I couldn't wait to get out of there and will never go back.

Maybe it's time to start a new legacy somewhere else so future generations can have a better quality of life. At some point, that's what your ancestors did.

A 19-year old thug beat him to death with his fists for the $20 in his wallet and a ring on his finger.
This thug was charged with first degree murder. Yesterday, a crooked judge sentenced him to 10 years (including time served) that can be shortened if he takes anger management classes and gets his GED. He'll be back on the streets before he is 30.
If he would have had a dime bag on him when he was arrested, he would've gotten 30 years.

Defense counsel clerked for the judge.

Me as well ANC. I live in Brandon but have to go downtown quite a bit for work.
T. Green is a terrible Judge and makes terrible rulings. Most attorneys who think they'll need a helping hand with their case hope to be in her courtroom. Always a judicial error to appeal.

Jackson is a perfect storm of demographics, bad leadership, and little interest or power in the state to turn it around, most likely.
Plenty of cities have shitty liberal governance and manage. Atlanta has a notable leadership and demographic challenge, and is doing pretty well because of mass gentrification of shitty areas.
In contrast, Atlanta suburbs are generally declining.

It's over 80% right now. I think it will be over 90% in 10 years. The roads are impassable, water undrinkable and per capita it is more dangerous than Chicago.
