ETA: was this Mitch McConnell’s plan all along? Trump loses then he usurps the senate by having Leahy offed and replaced by a Republican Governor which is something mail in voting can’t beat?

This opens a very interesting scenario. Phil Scott is the republican governor of Vermont. If Leahy has to step down or dies then the Governor can replace him with a republican which would flip the balance of power in the Senate back to the republicans and make Harris as VP a mute point. It would also elevate Turtle back to majority leader.

Liberal Phil Scott is not appointing a republican to replace a democrat, especially a democrat that died in office.
It's Vermont people. It's not happening.
If Phil Scott ran for office in the south or the midwest, he would be a democrat.
